I’m due back at work next week. I’m a secondary school teacher. Due to have my risk assessment. Not really sure what kind of things to raise/ask for in terms of working arrangements?

Could anyone give any advice, please?

For a pregnancy risk assessment what needs to be considered is whether there are physical hazards, chemical hazards, biological hazards and working conditions hazards that pose additional risk due to your pregnancy.

For example if you are a chemistry or biology teacher are you likely to be exposed to substances that are risky to your pregnancy?

Then what needs to be covered is whether these additional risks can be mitigated by preventable measures.

Lone working is an important one. What do you do if you need to throw up. Details will depend on what you teach.

I used to do a lot of these at work and we included notification of infectious diseases (e.g. rubella).

Thanks so much for the replies so far.
I need to ask about vomiting as still experiencing morning sickness. Infectious diseases is also a good one as I’ve not had chicken pox!

We also included heavy lifting - basically making sure there was help available for any lifting required.

Also consider if you have a timetable that requires shifting rooms as carrying things and moving around the building will get more exhausting. It’s reasonable to ask to stay in one room for the vast majority of your teaching.
Also, if you’re not up to it, sometimes being taken off break duty as it’s standing up which can be hard, especially if you’re on your feet with teaching so you need a rest break to sit and possibly elevate feet if they start to swell.

All Covid related risks as well.

Something I have requested second time around is to have the risk assessment reviewed as no one really knows what their particular pregnancy will look like and so the adjustments will change as it progresses. Hope it’s smooth sailing for you.
