Pregnacare multivitamin vs nhs supplement?

Hi ladies, I had a midwife appointment yesterday. She told me that I should not buy any more Pregnacare multivitamins and instead use supplements provided by NHS.
The pregnacare one has a lot of ingredients like B12 etc.
The NHS one has Vit C, D & Folic Acid.

Any advice about what should I do? What supplements were you taking in your pregnancy?

I am 10.5 weeks & this is my first pregnancy so no idea what to do.

Nhs only really advises folic acid and vitamin D. Most of the others just give you expensive pee Grin. Pregnacare is overpriced so if you wanted to keep taking a multivitamin you could always take a cheaper brand. Tbh it's up to you as its you paying for it

I took a pregnancy multivitamin and Omega 3 supplement over the NHS vitamins. This ensured that all my vitamin needs were met if my diet was not perfect, had omega 3 as I'm not a fan of fish so rarely eat any. They were especially beneficial in the 1st 16wk due to nausea and food aversions.

The general NHS line is that you only need extra Folic acid and Vitamin D in pregnancy - and that is true if you are able to eat a healthy, varied diet, you should get all the other nutrients you need from that (oily fish twice a week, minimum 5 a day fruit and veg, plus daily whole grains/pulses, nuts/seeds, dairy and preferably some meat a few times a week too).

But realistically many people can't or won't eat all those things, so a pregnancy multivitamin can be a safety net. Assuming the NHS vitamins don't offer you a higher dose/different version of the Folic Acid (some people need more then the standard recommended 400mcg or need methylfolate ) then I personally can't see any reason not to continue with the Pregnacare if it suits you and you can afford it.

Personally I'm a worrier as it's my first/only baby at 40 after 3 years of fertility treatment, so I take a pricier "natural" Pre-natal, plus a Fish oil supplement, extra Vitamin D3 in oil, as well as my supplements for PCOS/ Endo (NAC and Myo-inositol). Sometimes I feel like I rattle! Grin

Thank you, ladies, I will decide what to do. Probably continue with multiviamin
