C Section infected? TMI

I’m two weeks pp and had an emergency c section for my twin girls at 33 weeks. I think my incision might be infected. My incision is slightly red on both ends. It smells a little musty, and foul. It hurts when I walk and when I lay on my sides, so I keep my compression wrap on to help. It also might be leaking clear fluids but I’m not 100% sure as my stomach hangs over and it might be sweat? I also wiped it with a cotton pad and it was bleeding a tiny bit on one end. I’ve also been noticing pretty painful urination these past couple of days that lasts for a couple minutes even after I’ve peed. Is this all normal or should I try and call my midwife line to see triage? I don’t want to go unless it’s serious since I was stuck in hospital for a whole week before my emergency c section.

Definitely get it looked at, the smell would worry me as sign of infection. Mine did the same Confused but settled with antibiotics from my gp

That sounds infected. Get an urgent appointment with your midwife/gp

I would definitely call me about the urination. It might just be e irritation from the catheter but the fact it lasts could suggest an infection. The wound probably needs a look at too. I've had some really nasty csection wounds and have managed to have them treated mainly from home so I would expect it would be a case of popping in for a quick look then back home.

Congrats on the birth of your twins OP! What you are describing needs to be checked pronto, to prevent potential infection spreading. I would call your midwife ASAP and failing that see what 111 say about an A and E trip. I had your exact symptoms post birth of my daughter and was in hospital for 10 days whilst they got the infection under control with anti-bs. Nip this in the bud is the best advice I can give, and take excellent care of yourself (easier said then done with twins) Thanks

Go and get it checked out. My wound popped open after DC2.

My c section infection was smelly.
You need to see someone so you can get antibiotics if needed.

Certainly get it checked, you can go to triage or your GP.

I had a semi-elective cesarean and have an infection atm too, got one with my 1st one after twins too. Even if symptoms are quite mild you need to get treatment early, my midwives should have suggested antibiotics earlier as I had a large solid mass on my scar and they had no idea what it was, it popped open after a week of antibiotics and was full of yellow puss. Like you I had a lot of pain laying on my sides and should have made more of a fuss about it early on, I'm now waiting on a GP app for more treatment to clear it up as it's still weeping.

Hey all, I called my doctor and he said based on all of the symptoms I've described, that's it just irritated because it's wet. He said that I need to keep a dry pad on it still and check it often to make sure it's dry. He said he's not concerned about the painful urination because it was close to my incision site and it's normal, especially when I wait too long to pee, to have painful urination. I'm going to keep it dry for a few days and see if the redness clears up and post back on this thread.

Also this is how it looks: trigger warning. Incision site.

OP, does that feel to you like a reasonable response from your GP? Do you feel generally poorly? In hindsight I would have pushed harder than I did in a similar situation, because all I wanted was to be at home with baby. Don't get fobbed off if you feel it's more than the GP is assessing it as being (without seeing you), particularly if you are in discomfort and/or there's a smell. Maybe you have a temperature? Also a sign of infection. Don't settle for "wait and see". Hugs to you x

@crackerschick i definitely feel fine with his response because it actually was right in this case Grin it cleared up once I kept it nice and dry. It did have some white discharge which he said was a concern if it continued, which it hasn't. Definitely not running a fever. I'm doing much better now but definitely keeping an eye on the incision for any symptoms!
