When should I expect to hear from a midwife?

Hi all,

This is my first post and my first pregnancy so this is all very new to me!

I found out I was pregnant last Monday (yay) and was told by the receptionist at my doctors surgery to register my pregnancy online with badger notes. I did that right away but I am yet to hear anything and it’s been over a week.

Am I not supposed to hear anything until week 10 or am I missing something?

It’s all new to me so I’m really not sure of the correct processes at all so any help would be very much appreciated!

Thank you

They don't usually get in contact for booking in appointment until weeks 8-10 in my area.

Around week 10. Congratulations

It depends on where you are. It was wk 5 for me!

I had my booking appointment at 8 weeks with the midwife. I registered with them over the phone at around 5 weeks and then was contacted to schedule my booking appointment. It’s all very quiet at the start so don’t be worried x

I think it depends on your area. I self referred to my local hospital online when I was 4 weeks, had a letter through a week or two later with my booking appointment for when I was around 10 weeks. I'm 15 weeks now and have yet to meet my actual midwife, hopefully I will see her at the next appt!

Moominmiss · 01/09/2021 14:40

As I’d had several losses beforehand I didn’t phone to book in until nearly 7 weeks. I booked over the phone there and then to see the midwife at 9 weeks.

To add we don’t use the badger notes app in my trust so I think it seems to vary by trust!

Bells3032 · 01/09/2021 14:43

Was week 8 before i heard about booking appt which was booked for about week 10

I'm 24 weeks now - I got a letter about my booking in appt at around 9 weeks for the week later, then a letter about my 12-week scan. I had a 16-week midwife appointment with a locum, and then a 20-week scan, and finally met "my" midwife at 24 weeks. I see her again at 28 weeks.

It's been really hands-off compared to what I was expecting, no real conversations or chats yet, most of the midwife appointments have been under 5 minutes, pretty much just a urine test. No dopplers here until after 30 weeks, so we haven't heard the heartbeat yet.

Just incase that helps you to prepare!

Bells3032 · 01/09/2021 14:44

@ButFirstTea I am 18 weeks and only had an online meeting with my midwife. that's in. Hospital has only been a quick sonograph and a blood test. in and out. Not meeting midwife f2f til 25 weeks!

GintyMcGinty · 01/09/2021 14:45

I got a home introductory visit at 9 weeks and booking in appointment at 12 weeks.

But that was pre-covid so don't imagine the 9 week one happens anymore unless its online.

TakeYourFinalPosition · 01/09/2021 14:45

Oh, and we use Badger Notes, but the midwife doesn't update it, and scans/results tend to get uploaded a week or so later. It's mostly used just for the linked leaflets so that they don't have to give you paper leaflets, and if they're set up right, your appointments will show in the calendar.

I think some trusts use it better.

ButFirstTea · 01/09/2021 14:48

@Bells3032 yeah very similar to me, had my booking in app in person but with a midwife from a different team because it ended up being rearranged! My 16 week appt is in person but no idea who I'll meet there Grin
