Reduced movements at 31 weeks

Hi all,

Waiting to be seen at the pregnancy assessment unit, but I've hardly felt my little one move all day (i have felt him at times and been relieved.. Then time has passed and I've been worried again!)

I tried all the usual, cold drink, bath, etc and although he did move, it wasn't nearly as much as usual, so feeling quite worried 😢

All the way through I've been saying he's the most active one we've had (our 3rd) so making myself very anxious 😭

Any reassuring stories? If he's still not moving when I'm seen what will they do?

I'm worried he'll move a little when I'm seen so they'll send me home but I'll know its still not right 😢

You are doing the absolute best thing by getting checked.

There will almost certainly be no problem, baby will move and they will monitor you briefly and everything will be fine and you can go home.

If there was any problem at all you will have caught it early and you are right there where all the help is. Try not to worry - the staff don’t mind and will be pleased that you’re being observant.

Let us know how you get on. Xx

Bollockingfuck · 31/08/2021 23:40

To answer more fully, they will probably put pads on your belly to monitor baby’s heartbeat for half an hour or so. Hopefully you’ll get a cup of tea while this is happening and baby will also wake up from being prodded around and you can go home.

Oodlesofdoodlescockapoodles · 31/08/2021 23:44

@Bollockingfuck thank you for replying, its helping having someone "out there" whilst everyone else is asleep!

I'm 95% sure it'll be nothing and I've just worked myself up now, once I'd had the thought something could really be wrong that was just it for all rational thinking!

Really hope he can be persuaded to budge and reassure me he's doing ok in there 😢

Hope all is well OP xxx

@Oodlesofdoodlescockapoodles you're in the right place OP. I'm 31 weeks and was in the exact same position a few days ago! Barely felt him move all day, they put me on a CTG (they should do the same for you). The ctg showed he was moving a lot, I just couldn't feel it! So it was likely he just changed position. He's now love again and back to his usual movements. They won't let you leave until you meet a certain criteria though and they will organise a scan if this is the case. Hope you're ok xx

Cleverpolly3 · 31/08/2021 23:50

Hope all is ok I’ve been there with all three of mine and know how worrying it is
With all of them just seeing and tracking movement on monitors and scans wasn’t enough they kept me in and monitored through the night / day

Sending you a hand hold sure it will be ok

Oodlesofdoodlescockapoodles · 31/08/2021 23:53

@Teaandtonic thank you

@lockdownbabyx thank you, its reassuring to hear everything was ok with your little one! Interesting that he could be moving and I'm just not feeling it, that makes me feel better 🙂 hopefully that is the case!

Are you still in the waiting room? Hope you're not kept waiting for long x

Cleverpolly3 · 01/09/2021 00:01

If you have an anterior placenta this can mask movement too

Oodlesofdoodlescockapoodles · 01/09/2021 00:13

@Teaandtonic just been hooked up to record movement. Suddenly seems to have woken up 😳

That’s good Oodles - hopefully baby was just being a pickle!

olidora63 · 01/09/2021 00:43

Just looked at your thread , My daughter is 27 and I was constantly getting myself monitored because I couldn’t feel her kicking…definitely go to the AAU whenever you are worried. Xx

Oodlesofdoodlescockapoodles · 01/09/2021 00:46

Thanks all, as soon as the monitor went on he was like an olymic athlete, bouncing around all over the place 😳 very embarrassing when I've been on the phone in tears insisting he isn't moving!

On my way home now, thanks for the reassurance everyone Smile

That happened to me each time I went in for reduced movement. Went in around 3 times absolutely petrified and as soon as I was hooked to the machine, he moved non stop. It’s as if they know!

Glad it went well!

thebookworm1 · 01/09/2021 07:23

I think so many women experience the same! I’m at 32 weeks and can totally relate. Some days movements are very strong, some days I can barely feel them. I’ve been checked and baby is always moving. Kick counts are so stressful!

GreenTortoise · 01/09/2021 07:39

Don't be embarrassed at all.

Better to be checked and I'm glad your LO is okay.

My DS did this. I couldn't feel him at all. I'll never forget the feeling. I was thinking the worse.

I was waiting to be seen then he started kicking and I wanted to cry in relief. Then he was hooked up and went nuts. He hated anything on my stomach.

alvaryder · 01/09/2021 08:00

@Oodlesofdoodlescockapoodles I ended up having about 3 checks near the end of my pregnancy due to lack of movement. Each time he started dancing right on cue at the scan. I was reassured they would rather do this every day than miss something and not to worry at all.
You did good checking.

lockdownbabyx · 01/09/2021 10:07

So glad all is ok! You shouldn't feel embarrassed, it's what they are there for and they strongly encourage you to go in if you notice any change. You did the right thing ☺️ x

8dpwoah · 01/09/2021 10:12

Every single time I've been on monitoring with two different babies (RFM and during induction) they seem to instantly hate the monitor straps and start trying hard to get away from them 😂

Please please don't anyone worry about going in and 'wasting time' it honestly isn't and I'm sure midwives would rather have someone on a monitor for half an hour with baby Kung Fu kicking at the CTG than having to deal with anything awful because they didn't want to be a nuisance.
Glad all ok with yours OP, I bet you're tired now but at least you can relax Flowers

Cleverpolly3 · 01/09/2021 11:27

Glad he’s ok Smile

IGuessIdProbablyBeAnne · 01/09/2021 11:31

Glad baby is well. Never be embarrassed for checking - and check again, if you feel worried. My friend had to go multiple times each week, just to be sure, as movements were so up and down.
Best wishes OP!

So glad to see this Oodles!

Now that you are home and reassured I will add that the reason I always comment when I see a ‘reduced movement’ thread is because I had the same experience with my oldest at 38 weeks. I went in for monitoring and ended up with an emergency caesarean an hour later!

He had a very rare ‘hidden’ complication and would not be with us today if I had waited until the next day to be checked.

Not trying to scare you or anyone else, but you should always be checked if you have even the slightest worry. ❤️

Oodlesofdoodlescockapoodles · 01/09/2021 19:33

Thanks everyone! He's been back to his usual self today, making his presence known 😁

Wow @Bollockingfuck that must have been such a shock! Thank god you went in.

Looking forward to him being here and being less paranoid 🙈 or at least, paranoid about different things!
