Pregnancy

Soreness from cyclogest

Hey ladies,

Im currently 5 weeks and 5 days pregnant. I found out last Tuesday. Ive had 4 previous miscarriages, one of which being in March of this year where I was also on cyclogest progesterone pessaries. But that ended in a silent miscarriage.

Going back to this pregnancy I am on the progesterone pessaries again and I have been since the day I got my positive. But today I've suffered so much soreness down below. It just stings when I wee. So I've switched up doing it in the back door (sorry tmi😂) but my god, my front door is so sore, almost feels puffy. Has anyone suffered this? I don't know if I've had a reaction and should contact my GP.

Also today I've had lower back pain and very tight cramps in my stomach that come and go. Almost feels like something is pulling inside my stomach. Something I'm hoping is the baby settling in🤞🏼 I do have a scan on September 9th also with the EPU as I'm under the miscarriage clinic

Hey hun, I’m in a similar situation to you. Currently pregnant again after 4 miscarriages. So sorry for your losses x
I am also on cyclogest and do get some itchiness from taking them vaginally. I tried the other way because of it, but actually found that to be worse, so I’ve gone back to vaginally now!
When do you take them? I take mine around 5pm then lay down for around 45 mins then go for a wee. I found the itchiness was worse when I did them before I went to sleep, then didn’t get back up again to pee until early hours!
If you are sore then do contact your dr/hospital

@MrsS89K so sorry you're in this position also! The innocence in pregnancy is taken away with worry isn't it🥺

And I have to take it twice a day, so I've been doing it morning times, but I've been doing it the back door way in the mornings because it's less messy and then the front door at night. I try to take them no more than 12 hours inbetween. It's only today I've felt the soreness. The back door way did make me constipated for a couple days. So I've been having plenty of fibre to keep the show on the road.

The things we have fo go through🙄 I've bought some vagisil and sudocream today so I'm hoping that helps

Yes I had to use it when going through ivf. Swapped to utrogestan which was much better for me. Less mess and didn't make me sore. That's wasn't why I swapped but was a nice bonus. Might be an option?

@Brunilde oh wow, I didn't know there was different forms or types. I just thought it was one size fits all type thing😂 I shall suggest that if it persists because it's not been pleasant today

I would keep using them rectally give ur lady bits a rest, I took them that way from 11 weeks till 36 weeks, I would maybe also ring ur gp to get swabs taken to rule out thrush and drop in a urine sample

Yes cyclogest seems to be the go to option but I started bleeding before I should have so was worried it wasnt being absorbed properly so they changed to utrogestan. Was much better all round in my opinion. They are smaller capsules so less mess and I was never sore with them.

I'm going to see how it is after giving it a rest and stick to the back door. And if it's not better as a rest I'll contact my GP, don't want to judge to soon when it's only stated up today. Thank you ladies x

Oh the dreaded Cyclogest. But at least with that one you get a choice between "front" and "back" door (so a fun choice of risk of side effects of thrush/itching vs risk of wind/constipation/loose stools).

I was on them twice a day and started off by alternating which way I used them (hoping to minimise the side effects of both) but eventually chose "front" door as I just found insertion easier - and after letting them fully absorb for an hour or so, I also found washing away any waxy residue left on the exterior of the vulva helped with the itching (along with taking a womens oral probiotic to protect against thrush).

I did do exactly that. Insert in the morning and then shower, but I think I've made the error of when I've done it at night and obviously it's hours then of it just sitting there🤦🏼‍♀️

I've got a doctors appointment tomorrow to just check everything over. It's not as sore today and sudocream has been a god send😂 but better safe than sorry

Hello. I know this post is a year old but I am hoping you can help. I am really struggling with the pessaries. I have so much irritation . When I put them at the back I have severe stomache cramps. Any help would be greatly appreciated x

So yes, I can give an update ladies. The pessaries ended up giving me thrush throughout my whole pregnancy. I was on the pessaries till 15 weeks and even though I did change to using it up the back door😂 it had irritated enough to cause me thrush. Had it up until the day I gave birth. That was my outcome

Oh no that sounds terrible. Did you tell your GP this? There's another progesterone brand called crinone which I will be trying soon. Maybe you can ask for this one too?
