36 weeks and sulking!

Just had my 36 week midwife appointment and confirmed breech (had been the last 6 weeks or so), she’s now measuring a week ahead and they found blood/nitrates in urine so a likely UTI.
Had a terrible pregnancy first time around, this one has been so much better - but now I feel a bit deflated.
I know in the scheme of things there isn’t a great deal to worry about but the thought of a c section terrifies me! I’ve never had surgery before and I have way too many responsibilities post birth (horses!) to be out of action for 6 weeks 😭.
Upside is that I will get a GBS test through urine sample (last pregnancy was GBS positive and son had antibiotics after being born so this pregnancy was being treated the same) - so there a tiny chance if I don’t have it, and she turns then a could have a totally normal labour/birth…
Sorry, just a moaning post really..
Happy to listen to everyone else’s moans in return for reading this!

36 weeks here also! Have they tried to turn her yet?
What’s GBS?
If she’s measuring 1 week ahead will they test for diabetes?

Oh god yeah if you’ve got horses you need to be recovered as soon as poss! What will be will be if worst come to the worst can u send someone to muck out and feed etc

You have other options. Your consultant should discuss ECV, vaginal breech and LSCS thoroughly to allow you to make an informed decision. It’s your choice. X

Almostcooked2021 · 31/08/2021 16:38

@Rubyrecka GBS Is Group B Strep..I had it first time around which means you have IV antibiotics during labour. My son was born with a slightly high resp rate and although tested negative they class him as having it and so treated this pregnancy the same even though not tested.

Thankfully all the horses are living out and will be all winter…it’s just feeling like I have to depend on others to help me out - not very good at that! 🤦🏼‍♀️Need to get better at it!

Got a scan next Wednesday. She’s free at the moment so hopefully an ECV is a possible. Although that scares me a bit too. No mention of diabetes. Midwife didn’t seem concerned at all about her measuring ahead…I keep getting different midwives which doesn’t help at the moment I don’t think as I don’t know them.

@Peacefulspirit midwife hasn’t really mentioned anything although I’ve researched the ecv side of things so know what I need to raise hopefully…she’s free currently so I’m hoping that’s an option!! 🤞🤞

I'm 35+4 and was told at last MW appointment that baby is breech. Measuring 2 weeks ahead and have been the entire pregancy but no one has tested me for GD as apparently measuring 2 either side of your gestation week is considered normal range.

Feel huge. Keep being told am huge. Baby keeps moving to what seems to me to be transverse lie. Beginning to feel a bit edgy about it all as no idea what to expect next!

Have my 36 week MW appointment on Thurs so hopefully will get some answers then.

Fully appreciate how you feel @Almostcooked2021!

Peacefulspirit · 31/08/2021 17:56

Was the breech presentation diagnosed just from palpating? Have you been offered a scan to confirm it? Hopefully you’ve got some pro-active HCPs, they should be including you in the decision making and communicating clearly. Hope you manage to chat to someone soon x

Almostcooked2021 · 31/08/2021 18:08

@LunaDreams hope your midwives are more helpful than mine! Feel like I’ve been given literally no info this time around at all. Hardly been asked a single question!

@Peacefulspirit I have a scan on weds next week to confirm breech. Assume I’ll have a consultant appt afterwards but they haven’t mentioned.

@LunaDreams hope you’re appointment went ok and you got some clarity?
My scan is having to be delayed now as I’ve just tested positive for covid. 😭

@Almostcooked2021

Just to say that a section isn't always that problematic, and recovery might be easier than you expect! I had a section on my middle DC (also breech, tho ultimately I went into labour before the scheduled section & was sectioned at 10 cm dilated) and SVD on the others. I would say I was more rested & in less pain following my section - I felt like I got more rest as I was longer in hospital & didn't have the tears / general battering of my nether regions 😀 I was back driving in less than 3 weeks - my doctor was happy as long as I confirmed with my insurance company.

Regarding PP suggestion of an ECV, at 36 weeks it's very unlikely that will work do turn baby. It does sometimes happen that the baby will turn spontaneously as the start of labour.

Good luck!

LunaDreams · 04/09/2021 17:37

@Almostcooked2021 baby has turned!

I raised some concerns about fact he seems to move round a lot and they said c-section can be considered if needed.

Still measuring 2 weeks ahead and have been referred twice for growth scans due to changes to movement but both have been refused as apparently our local antenatal clinic is so short staffed due to covid they will only do absolute priorities atm (whereas mine are more routine).

So sorry to hear about you having covid :(. Are you feeling OK with it? X

Almostcooked2021 · 04/09/2021 18:30

@LunaDreams great news that baby has turned! Although doesn’t sound like they’ve committed to anything else yet 🙈. Hope you get A scan and some reassurance soon.

Feeling ok at the moment - like I have a cough/cold but have lost all smell / taste. I think I’m on about day 4/5 symptom wise so possibly not hit the worst part yet ☹️

Thanks @EarringsandLipstick - reassuring to hear that things went smoothly and you had a good recovery. It’s definitely the recovery that worries me most.

Midwives seemed confident at the time an ecv may work as she was high and free. However this will be put back at least a week now..so I’ll probs be around 38 weeks as I’ll have to
Isolate all next week. That’s assuming i stay well enough now…🙈

If it's breech on palpation they shouldn't be measuring fundal height as it's only accurate for ceph presentations.

I'm presuming you haven't had growth scans? If you haven't then I would disregard the SFH measurement all together. Your midwife should know this and shouldn't have measured.

If dr is happy to go ahead with ECV and you feel comfortable then there's that option but I would be mentally preparing yourself for a section. ECV's only work about half the time.

Take care x
