So I had a small pile but now it's grown to the size of a grape and I have a second grape too.
I called the Dr weeks ago who kinda palmed me off and advised me to speak to midwife who told me to go straight back to Dr and get something prescribed.
He's given me anusol but honestly I just don't see how this will do anything to them.
They are constantly external, don't stay in if I push them back 🤮.
Am o going to just waste my efforts using this cream when I'm 99% sure they'll need to be removed surgically?
I hate it so much, it's hard to keep hygienic :( :(

I had them in first pregnancy and used that cream which cleared them up, it was very good.

PlanDeRaccordement · 31/08/2021 14:44

It’s the extra blood volume you have in pregnancy that causes them to inflate and new ones to appear. The creams do help. But also, post pregnancy, they often shrink or go away as you blood volume returns to normal.

SparklingLime · 31/08/2021 14:47

Ask for Scheriproct on prescription. The ointment if they’re external.

Horehound · 31/08/2021 14:47

See I have a feeling I had one before I was pregnant the first time. But definitely things are worsening as I'm progressing through pregnancy.
I just think they won't disappear after I've had the baby and they really seem to bug a cream won't help...but maybe I'll just give it a go

Agree with @SparklingLime

It's also good to freeze cotton pads soaked in witch hazel which you can wedge between your butt cheeks to provide some relief. I was so desperate I was putting frozen peas into a nappy sack and wedging them between my butt too!

The doctor gave me some anaesthetic gel which they use for inserting catheters, it gave me mild relief also but didn't really last long.

And sit in a shallow bath, I ended up buying a sitz bath and that's been good this time as haven't been able to sit in the bath like I did with first pregnancy as have dc1 running round now.

I just had this!
I gave birth this morning, developed a bunch of grapes on Thursday and I was in absolute agony- indescribable. GP prescribed scheriproct but it didn't do much more than take the edge off the pain. The pain was mostly caused by pressure because now that the baby is out and the pressure gone it is a lot less painful! I'm hoping that now with the ointment they will shrink and go back in.

sparklyblue81 · 31/08/2021 21:26

Anusol does really help with the pain of them & will shrink them but also try and make sure you’re not getting constipated & making them worse/stopping them getting better. Drink loads of water & eat lots of fruit & high fibre foods. Mine were awful after birth with 2 out of 3 of mine (like so bad that the almost qualified student midwife who did my postnatal checks was really shocked & had to ask for a second opinion 🙈) but they went within a couple of weeks & only flared up again in pregnancy.

alltheeights · 31/08/2021 21:48

I had my first as I call them "bum grape" 😂 last week I was mortified lol I still am and makes me feel so gross and uncomfortable, warm baths I feel have helped but going to ask my midwife tomorrow what I should do to "care" for my new little friend lol

bobisbored · 31/08/2021 22:03

I found the best ointment for me is Germaloids. I had an awful large thrombosed haemorrhoid last year, I ended up in hospital twice. The doctor said "I know it's bad but trust me, you don't want surgery!" I don't know how bad it needs to be!

Horehound · 01/09/2021 11:32

Hmm sounds like maybe I wouldn't qualify for surgery then. I see they do rubber banding to make then drop off...maybe that's what'll need to happen but I guess I need to wait until after birth.

@Ava50x congratulations! Fingers crossed yours sort themselves out soon!

See mine are not painful I wouldn't say but (and this is so horrible) like if I bend down I can deffo smell poo and I think it's because my bumhole is so weak/slightly open due to the piles. I am really self conscious about it. I will try anusol for the week anyway and see if they shrink.
I am drinking lots and keeping up high fibre diet and also using a step when I go to the toilet to keep my knees up.

OP just be careful with anusol as it contains a plant extract - I am allergic to it and you do not want to experience an allergic reaction on top of haemorrhoids! I have used germaloid and found that very good. X
