I’ve received a letter through the door to say I have a hospital app next week.. rang the antenatal clinic to ask what it’s for but all they could tell me was it was an app with a consultant regarding something from my booking app.. only thing I can think of is my weight.. has anyone had this before? If so what happens at this appointment? Thank you

I’m classed in the obese category.. how many weeks are you and I’ll have a look and see whether I had an appointment around a similar sort of stage..

My BMI was 35.2 at my booking appt (cut off is 35 in my area) so I had a phone appt with the consultant following this. Really quick appointment - they talked through the risks of a high BMI, although they advised not to try and lose weight during pregnancy. They prescribed aspirin daily and said I would need a GTT at 28 weeks (already requested by my midwife). They also booked me for growth scans at 28, 32 and 36 weeks. Hope that helps!

I was under the consult for a few reason but one being weight with DD so saw my consultant at 16 weeks which was just a. Chat and check over notes then again at 28 week, 32 weeks and 35 weeks with 3 growth scans at those dates too. In my trust they do growth scans instead of bump measurements if your BMI is over a certain level because it’s more accurate

My weight was never actually discussed just to say and I wasn’t weighed once or told I had to lose weight or made to feel bad in anyway just an extra level of care. I had the same consultant for all 3 of my kids in the end and she was lovely

Hi, yeh mine was the same telephone consultation and a plan put in place re growth scans. Nothing to worry about - I found it quite informative and it was nice to have some extra care despite the fact I’m at risk because of my weight. Xxx

Probably depends on your trust, OP, but I had an appointment around this time (16 weeks I think) to ask me if I was interested in being a part of a weight management in pregnancy scheme due to high BMI. I signed up because I thought why not and it has been fab - assigned a dietician and a specialist midwife and they just chatted through ways I could tailor my food for a healthy pregnancy and avoid excessive weight gain. We talked about cravings and things too, body image in pregnancy and recommended weight gain, and the dietitian gave me her number to text if I needed help. In the end I was doing well but not getting enough calcium so it was really informative.

I know things like this are normally a bit upsetting but it has been so practical and sensitive and as a result I've only gained 1kg (30 weeks) which the dietitian and midwife are delighted with for my booking weight.

My hospital do a consultant appt as standard around 16 weeks. They then refer you on if necessary. May just be that
