Testing positive for Covid Third Trimester

Mylife86 · 27/08/2021 18:26

Hi everyone,

So I have today just tested positive for Covid at 32 weeks pregnant. I don't feel too bad, got a runny nose, slight cough and slightly achy.

I am keen to hear from anyone else who has tested positive in the third trimester or who knows anyone who has! Panicking a bit that it will affect the baby 😢

Thankyou

Have you had your vaccines?

puppybaz · 27/08/2021 19:24

Hi OP, I'm on day 9 today and I'm 35 weeks.
I have just had bad cold symptoms, nothing else. I had one vaccine and was due the second next week. Hope you keep well!!

Mylife86 · 27/08/2021 19:33

Thanks for the responses!

No I had my first vaccine booked for today hence doing the test before and it came up positive 😩

@puppybaz is there anything to look out for with the babies? I've read quite a bit that it can affect the placenta!

I contacted my midwives when I tested positive and they didn't give me any specific advice, other than keep a close eye on movements etc, but nothing more specific than that. I have to admit I haven't done too much reading on it

tinytoucan · 27/08/2021 20:51

I know someone who tested positive in her third trimester at the end of last year, she said she felt no worse than a cold. Baby is now a healthy happy 9 month old Smile

Hope it stays mild for you!

Mylife86 · 27/08/2021 21:56

Thanks guys, really hope it's going to be ok. Going to keep a close eye on movements!

I'm 36 weeks tomorrow and tested positive on Wednesday.
I've got no cough or loss of taste & smell but do have a fever, major fatigue & every part of my body aches.
I've slept pretty much non stop for the last 3 days.

I've been advised to keep a close eye on movements and call with any changes.
I had a growth scan booked for Tuesday morning, they are still seeing me but at 5.10pm so they can deep clean the room afterwards x

Make sure you seek rapid medical attention for any chest pain or shortness of breath. Try and keep drinking clear fluids and moving about the house a bit even if you are stuck self isolating.
Hoping for the best for you OP

Mylife86 · 28/08/2021 07:32

@crobo87 hope your scan goes ok and that you feel better soon! I think tracking movements helps with knowing if the placenta has gone bad, well that's what I've read anyway!

@SouthwestSis yes I will thanks! I've been trying to drink shed loads of water as that helps with blood clots 🤞🏽🤞🏽

You poor thing. I hear it tends to get a little bit worse before it gets better, how are you feeling this morning?

showmorekindness · 28/08/2021 11:18

I had covid at 6 months, I'm now 8.5 months and baby is absolutely fine. Growth etc has continued as normal.

When I caught it I spoke to my midwife and she didn't seem too concerned, just advised to keep an eye on baby's movements. My GP also offered me an oxygen monitor if I needed it but I didn't have any breathing problems, it was just like a bad cold and I was very tired so recommend taking it easy.

All the best x

FTEngineerM · 28/08/2021 11:23

Hey, that sucks.

I’ve got it at the moment, on day 9 of the 10 isolating days but I’m still testing positive😬.

I felt horrendous in the beginning and couldn’t get out of bed or look after my son, Im 38 weeks.

Symptoms have gone quickly, movements are still ok, seeing midwife Monday yay. Haven’t seen her in ages maybe 4 weeks.

Keep your fluids up, loads of fruit helped me I think and paracetamol and lots of lying down.

Our trust doesn’t really seem to do anything differently if we get covid though so I’m hoping that’s a positive thingz

Mylife86 · 28/08/2021 11:31

Thanks ladies! Reassuring that everything has continued as normal with your pregnancies! I can still feel her moving about so am going to keep a really close eye on it and call up if anything changes :/

It's so annoying because I was so careful and literally had my jab booked in.

Are we OK to take paracetamol as we would usually throughout?

Thanks again

FTEngineerM · 28/08/2021 11:45

Yeah it’s totally fine, when you go into labour and ring the labour ward they’ll probably tell you to take paracetamol and have a bath😂

SouthwestSis · 28/08/2021 15:40

Yep paracetamol OK.
It's so hard with covid rates so high, if you are unvaccinated you are left so vulnerable even if you're being super careful.

Peacefulspirit · 28/08/2021 15:42

@Mylife86 can I just ask where you read about Covid affecting placental function? Do you have a link to the journal? Not being a knob just genuinely interested in a professional capacity as I haven’t heard about any specific links, though I know it’s associated with vascular compromise. Would just be cool to read the science. Hope you don’t feel too rough and recover quickly. Keep hydrated and rest lots x

Whatshouldicallme · 28/08/2021 16:18

@Peacefulspirit

I found this article this morning (which has freaked me out a bit): www.mdpi.com/1999-4915/13/8/1670/htm

FTEngineerM · 28/08/2021 16:35

Me too @Whatshouldicallme but the language in it is very technical, I can’t quite make out if I should be doing anything differently. Lots of big medical words 😬.

I’m seeing my midwife Monday, she’s been blazè about it but I’ll ask her about this too.

Mylife86 · 28/08/2021 17:38

@Peacefulspirit it was something about how 4 cases in Ireland had led to stillbirth as when they cut the placenta afterwards it was white and nodular? Sorry I'm not a health professional so I don't really know what I'm talking about! I've found this link again but it isn't the one I found the last time! www.thejournal.ie/covid-placentitis-pregnant-women-coronavirus-stillbirth-5373160-Mar2021/

See what you think! It would make me feel better if I read it wrong as it freaked me out!

Mylife86 · 28/08/2021 17:41

There's this too!

www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7832228/

Looks to be called covid placentitis
