Do I need maternity notes? Left them at Midwife’s today as I walked out unhappy with how they hadn’t informed me I had an OB appointment and expect me to chase around getting a white form needed

I think so. I had to have mine at every appointment and then when I went into labour and follow up care.

No you don't need them

Except for all appointments. Unexpected hospital admissions, and when you actually give birth. Then you need them

Perhaps go back, apologise for walking out (even if you had a right to be annoyed walking out isn't the way to deal with it). It's highly likely they will have been left at reception for you anyway.

Call reception and ask if you can have them. If they don't have them, call the community midwife number and ask for replacement notes. They have them all digitally recorded if they need them.

In what other healthcare scenario is the patient made to do their own admin?! No of course you don’t need to store and maintain your own paper notes. It’s a convenient place for healthcare providers to access the information but obviously they have also stored all the pertinent data digitally. The inconvenient thing for them is that this may be stored on different systems by different departments but that’s their problem not yours!

SmidgenofaPigeon · 27/08/2021 16:46

Yes you need them.

And it’s not about ‘doing your own admin’ it’s having something convenient to have to speed things up.

On Tuesday at 37 weeks I saw the midwife, the scan lady, the consultant and then went for a blood test. They could just add things to my notes in front of me each time.

It’s not a conspiracy.

You don't do any admin yourself really, just keep hold of the book as systems aren't always joined up and so it ensures the record can be accurately updated and has the info the HCPs might need. If someone can't look after some a4 documents makes you wonder.

OP phone and ask for them to be set aside I would and collect them.
