What is your opinion on having the flu vaccine, any experiences? I just can't decide if I should have it.

Why are you thinking of not having it?

FakeTanandProsecco · 25/08/2021 20:00

Get it! Just like Covid if you get flu in pregnancy you can end up really unwell. Some end up in ICU because they're so unwell.

It's been recommended for years now.

FakeTanandProsecco · 25/08/2021 20:01

Just to add- I get it every year. Generally no side effects apart from a sore arm.

MunsteadWood · 25/08/2021 20:02

Lots of studies have shown the flu vaccine is safe in pregnancy, and it protects your baby too.

I get the flu vaccine every year due to a long term health condition and didn't hesitate to get it when pregnant

sylbunny · 25/08/2021 20:02

I've had it for years. Twice when pregnant. It's not a live virus that's injected so there's no chance of you catching flu from
It and in my experience I've never had any side effects. DH is also eligible but sometimes forgets and he's caught flu on those years and i have been super smug!

I give the flu vaccine every year and have done loads in pregnancy. It’s safer to have it than not to have it. And I’ve had it myself during 2 pregnancies and will get it again this year.

mumofmunchkin · 25/08/2021 20:04

I'm having it, I have it every year whether I'm pregnant or not. I don't know of any reason why I wouldn't have it.

GintyMcGinty · 25/08/2021 20:05

I had flu 3 years ago.

Couldn't get out of bed for 3 weeks, lost my hearing for a few months. It was really grim.

Been vaccinated every year since.

In pregnancy you are at greater risk of serious complications like pneumonia.

Clarkey86 · 25/08/2021 20:06

Would you have even wavered of to weren’t for the whole covid jab debate?

I have had it whilst pregnant and will have it again this year as I’m pregnant again.

Clarkey86 · 25/08/2021 20:06

*if it

GemmaRuby · 25/08/2021 20:08

I had it when I was pregnant. I’d rather have a sore arm than be ill and put strain on my lungs when they’re supporting me and a baby.
Make sure you have the whooping cough one as well.

YouMeandtheSpew · 25/08/2021 20:12

It’s been given to pregnant women for years. What are your concerns?

JaffaRaf · 25/08/2021 20:18

You should absolutely have it, flu can be incredibly dangerous in pregnancy and the vaccine has been well known and safe for years and years with no safety risks. I had it in all my pregnancies.

Almosteloping · 25/08/2021 20:52

As all other PP's have asked, why wouldn't you have it? Flu during pregnancy sounds absolutely horrendous. My baby is due in December, and I'll be getting mine as soon as I'm offered, as I did in my first pregnancy.

I've had proper flu twice in my life and both times I thought I was dying. I've never been so ill in my entire life.

bookh · 25/08/2021 21:16

Absolutely yes. DH got flu, proper flu when Dd was about four weeks old. Terrified me but we were both absolutely fine. I now get it every year. Slight sore arm done.
