Baby Scan Photo Questions

Hi all,

My partner had her 12 week scan of our first baby on Monday which I also went to, what an experience!

Unfortunately, the printer was broken so we weren't able get a physical scan photo but the sonographer was kind enough to let us take pictures on our phones of the screens.

She didn't say anything at the time of the scan but I think she was quite gutted to not get a proper photo print out but she does at least have the digital one her phone took (and I took some too).

I got in contact with the hospital and they said that photos are only stored for 24 hours after the scan so it's not possible to reprint them. I called about 26 hours after the scan.

So because of that, I wanted to try and create a baby scan photo myself to give to her as a surprise. I would like to try to get it as authentic as possible to a real scan photo. So I was wondering if someone in the UK would be able to let me know what the measurement of the photo paper is and how big the white border is around the photo. I've never seen a photo in person but I think they have a white border around the photo (according to Google photos) but I'm not sure and also I'm not sure if sizes are different in other countries which is why I ask for UK specifically.

I was going to try and get photo paper of the same size, and crop the photo to include an accurate white border and then print out.

Her body is changing drastically to carry this child and for me, nothing was different. Until I saw the little devil on that screen in the scan room. It's real now for me too! So any information or help would be appreciated, this is both our first baby and anything I can do to make it more special for my partner, I'd like to try and do.

Thanks in advance,
Mike

Could you get a private scan instead?

I think all scan photos tend to look a bit different; but my private scan ones look quite similar to the NHS ones - they have the wording, DOB etc along the top. It'd also give you another chance to see baby, and they're usually on offer somewhere, I think I paid around £70 and got 5 photos.

Otherwise you might want to say what Trust you're under, I know the two near me have slightly different designs. I'm not at home to measure mine for you as a general guide, but hopefully someone will have theirs close by.

Congratulations on the baby!

The scan photos are square but the border just depends on how the picture was cut off from the others.
The paper is low quality too, very thin and slightly shiny (think satin not gloss)
I had a scan photo printed at Asda from a photo of mine. I did it because we lost our child and wanted to display their only picture but didn't want the original to fade in the sun. Now it's in a frame you'd never know it wasn't the origional

I'd definitely book a private scan, it was around £70 and could choose 5 photos printed out. They have all the medical bits on and the name on the top says 'baby of X &X' which is also lovely.
Congratulations

If you can't or don't want to book a private scan, PM me and I'll give you as many measurements as you want. I think it'd be a lovely surprise and I love a craft project.

@mike3231, you are very thoughtful. I hope you can make some “fake photos”. My youngest is nearly 10, so my experience is probably out of date, but my photos came on thin shiney paper, and were about 10 x 15 cm.

@PineappleSun just sent you a PM :)
