Early scan advice

Please could those who have had early scans advise me.
I’m 8 weeks today and want to go for a private early scan due to having been ill with an infection (thought was covid but it’s not) and want to check it hasn’t affected the pregnancy.
At this stage, should I be requesting a trans abdominal scan or a trans vaginal? This is my first pregnancy where I’ve got to this stage and don’t really know what I should be doing!
Thanks :)

Abdominal scan . You will need a full bladder. I hope you get on ok . So worth having done for reassurance.X

I had an early scan at 7+6 on the NHS because I was getting some pains on one side only, and they did a transvaginal scan. They said it was procedure to do a transvaginal scan at anything under 10 weeks as it would give them the best view. Unsure if different providers have different policies though.

I've had nhs scans and also a private scan before 10 weeks and they're always trans vaginal. The image is a lot clearer and you don't have to turn up desperate for a wee. Also it's dark in the room so everyone can see the screens, so having your pants off isn't as awkward as you might imagine.

Hope it goes well!

I had transvaginal at 5 weeks and abdominal at 7 weeks. Both NHS at EPU, could see everything clearly with the abdominal. The liklihood with a private scan is they will tell you what type of scan they offer, not everywhere does both. If they do offer both, they will probably try an abdominal first and switch to vaginal if they're struggling to see clearly. Good luck!

I’ve had trans abdominal at that stage and at 9 weeks even 3D imaging that way.

Given your reasoning for wanting an early scan I would suggest getting a private scan through a hospital and conducted by an obstetrician rather than going through one of the high street “souvenir” places. Will cost more but having a doctor on hand would be invaluable.
