Pregnancy and Dairy

Heyyy Mums,

Just a random one, has anyone during pregnancy had problems with dairy!?

I had bad nausea for the first trimester, I’m now just starting the second trimester and feel millions better and eating back to normal… except dairy… anything with milk in, specifically cup of tea or ice cream, makes me feel so sick still.
Move never had a problem with dairy before, in-fact at the start of pregnancy I drank milk in a glass (which I would normally do) like I craved it, then 2 weeks later anything with milk I felt awful.

Can you all of a sudden have something disagree with you!?

This is my 3rd baby and I’ve never had this before. I get taste buds etc change but it makes me feel so sick! Just feel it’s strange…

Maybe try oat or plant based milk? I switched to oat milk and pea milk a while back and find them much nicer!

HappyMummy2020 · 23/08/2021 15:14

@Scirocco ohh really… I might try that then. See if it helps.
It’s just milk… so weird.
Cheese for example is fine.
Thank you for the idea

Anything dairy based makes me sick. I've changed to oatly oat milk and it's not making me feel sick. I have HG so pretty much everything makes me sick

Garman · 23/08/2021 15:36

The protein in milk etc can be very hard for us to digest, so it can aggravate your system during pregnancy.

HappyMummy2020 · 23/08/2021 15:52

@Garman @thingymaboob
Thanks both.
Oh really!? I didn’t know that!
I might try a different milk like you suggested!?
It’s just odd that I’ve never had the problem before or in any other pregnancy, can it mean baby will be born lactose intolerant or anything!?

No it doesn't mean anything with regards to baby at all. Each pregnancy is different so for whatever reason in this one your body is just reacting to it.

HappyMummy2020 · 23/08/2021 17:36

@Garman ahhh ok thank you… I was worrying that I would have issues when baby is here.
Thank you :)

I had issues with yoghurt in my third trimester or my second pregnancy. It made me really sick, I only twigged a few weeks in after having yoghurt for breakfast every day that it wasn’t just my morning sickness coming back. I don’t drink milk so it could have happened with that too.

Vomiting yoghurt all very myself while driving down the m1 wasn’t my finest moment 😂

I'm 19 weeks nearly and since being pregnant I can't tolerate milk or cream anymore 😭 I originally thought it was nausea and then figured it out so have avoided it and chosen milk alternatives or vegan ice cream etc but Saturday a cafe gave me normal milk instead of coconut (didn't realise until I started feeling so sick an hour or two later that my drink didn't taste of coconut at all) and I spent that night sat by the toilet and felt so sick all night and the next day. I was reading up yesterday on it and a lot of women become lactose intolerant in pregnancy. Most of the time it goes from birth so I'm hoping I can get an enjoyable cup of tea again next year 🙏

@Crazydoglady123
Oh god I’m definitely not the only one… that’s like me! Anything dairy like and I feel so sick and like you, I’m over the toilet feeling like I’m going to be sick! God it’s awful….
I crave a nice cuppa some days to or a coffee as I have 2 kids already and I could do with a coffee to keep me awake for work haha!
I’m too scared to try anything lol.
Hope we can enjoy a nice cuppa after birth then haha

@TravellingPancake haha oh god down the motorway… oh bless you that must of been awful.
So weird isn’t it how things change in your body! Baby obviously doesn’t like it lol! Not my body has decided now it doesn’t like it either lol
I feel better I’m not the only one… don’t feel so crazy

@HappyMummy2020 I actually own a coffee shop so go in and make myself a nice coconut milk latte so I know it's definitely dairy free! I tried a sip of a normal hot chocolate today without thinking and it repeated on me all afternoon and that was literally a sip! I don't think I'd risk having a coffee anywhere where I'm not making it after Saturday 😬
