Hi I am really insecure about my weight and don't want to add any fat , i am 25 weeks pregnant and I know the scales are going to go up due to me having a baby growing in me but Is it ok to loose a lb of fat every 1 to 2 weeks . I am trying to eat healthier and if I eat 1800 calories will that be okay because I absolutely will not do it if it will affect baby in any way . I take my vitamins every day also . It's just really badly effecting my mental health and I know I won't look much slimmer but it will put my mind at rest the fat is slowly coming off and not going on . And then after birth I can do more about and feel more prepared . Please don't judge if you think this is a bad question . I will take all advice on board

Hey, I understand exactly how you feel I lost 2 stone before getting pregnant so I'm really trying to avoid putting too much weight on! (22 weeks currently)
However, I would 100% avoid dieting while pregnant, your body and baby needs more than 1800 calories chick! If you do this, it most likely won't be baby that suffers because they will take what they need, but your body will definitely suffer because you won't be getting what you need! Can I ask what your BMI is if you're comfortable telling me? (Completely fine if not!)
Unfortunately, weight gain is pretty much guaranteed during pregnancy, BUT 'weight' gain doesn't necessarily mean 'fat' gain! If you keep a healthy diet and do pregnancy-safe exercise, it is likely you won't gain excessive weight and will drop it when baby is born!
I know it's easier said than done, but try not to worry too much about your weight or let it affect your pregnancy- you're growing a human at the end of the day!! Your body is doing miracle work and any weight gain will be worth it when you have your little oneSmile xx

Oh and also, if you want some reassurance, I'll link a calculator you can use which tells you how healthy your current weight gain is and what you should expect to gain week by week! X

@cutejeans hi I'm not sure on my bmi I would have to work it out but what you said has really helped , it deffo will be worth it when he's here ! I really was not in a good place and this pregnancy has turned that around so much , i will make sure to eat enough and eat healthy then and just loose weight after he's born but thank you so much for helping me out , also I do think my bump gives me more confidence so that does help for now . Thank you very much for the advice xx

I know exactly how you feel, I'm only 20 and I've always been conscious of my weight but my bump definitely gives me more confidence! I've been so much more body-confident since being pregnant, our bodies are doing amazing things at the end of the day!
That calculator should also tell you your BMI but if your midwife hasn't already mentioned what it is, being 'overweight' clearly isn't an issue so try not to worry about it too much babe x

I won't tell you how much I lost but I will tell you that I had the weight to lose (obese) and I didn't try, it just happened.

If it helps you feel better, look into why you're supposed to "gain weight". It's not that your body itself is gaining fat, it's that your blood volume doubles, you're carrying a baby that's gunna be about 8lbs, the fluid in the amniotic sac, the weight of the placenta.

I'm in the same boat, but 13+6. I have a bmi of 35, the midwifes have been so lovely about it, but I am trying to loose weight ready for my 16 week appointment.

I'm simply eating a bit better, less snacking on crisps. Less takeaways.

This pregnancy I have been struggling the whole way through with constant hunger so I've already gained a lot... the constant hunger has calmed down a bit now thankfully 😅

Just eat healthier, I wouldn't count calories personally, but I will be walking in the evenings and enjoying my pregnancy x

Don’t lose weight intentionally. I’m also 25 weeks and I’ve got gestational diabetes. They hospital said I might lose a small amount of weight due to gestational diabetes but they don’t want me to lose a lot of weight as that will start to produce ketones which are bad for baby.

Your weight gain isn’t really weight gain at this moment anyway. Baby is weighing close to 1.5lbs at the moment. You then have the placenta, the amniotic fluid. You have your increase in blood volume. You will also be holding more water. People lose a lot of ‘weight’ immediately after birth, even people who still retain a lot of water after the birth will still lose a lot.
