I find bouncing on my ball helps with my chronic backache, not sure about the turning, I have heard it does help. Currently at 36+6, baby is more or less in correct position, but jury is still out on whether it will stay there!

Yes, it's fab. Much, much better than slouching on a sofa, keeps you nice and upright and positions the pelvis well, allowing head to come down and baby to get in a good position. And, as you say, will allow you to sit comfortably whilst taking pressure off your back.

I love 'em!

Stupid question - but a birthing ball is just one of those inflatable gym balls? Right?

mellymooks · 01/12/2007 16:48

yes it is inflatable gym ball - you can get them for £5 from argos!

daisynova · 01/12/2007 16:54

Ah ha - well I already have one then! Just need to blow it up - I bought it to lose weight for my wedding but it just stayed in it's box!

Be very careful though - don't necessarily buy a cheap one - they MUST be antiburst or you risk injuring yourself or baby! The cheapy ones may not be!

I paid about £8 for mine at Argos. It is a Reebok, so reputable brand and widely used in gyms where they have liability insurances to worry about . Funnily enough the midwife teaching my NHS parentcraft class this Saturday recommended exactly the same and said not to bother with expensive 'birth balls'. I must say you take mine from me over my dead body. It is the only pain free way to sit when my back/sciatica plays up.
