Double pram? Help

Helenmumoftw0 · 22/08/2021 21:09

My son will be exactly 2.5 when baby is born so we will need a double pram for walking and shopping round town!

What pram does everyone recommend please? Thank you!

Following as my DS will be 23 months when my baby is due.

LaRome · 22/08/2021 21:12

Also following, I need a double buggy on a budget

minipie · 22/08/2021 21:14

Out n About Nipper 360. Bloody brilliant buggy, so easy to push, fits through a doorway and loads available second hand.

I also had a much more expensive Phil & Teds but the nipper was sooo much better.

WeDontTalkAboutLove · 22/08/2021 21:17

I have a 4m and a 21m old so using a double pram lots!
I wanted the bugaboo donkey however couldn’t justify that amount on a pram although I know it is very popular.
We settled on the baby jogger city mini double and I’m glad we did - I love it!

Yep i have an Out n About and have yet to go somewhere with a doorway we can't fit through. It's very sturdy and comfortable to push. It's easy to put up and down. My son was 18 months when DD was born and we've been using it for a year with no issues

Hercisback · 22/08/2021 21:18

2.5might be doable without a double depending on your lifestyle. Sling for the newborn until 2.5yo is nearly 3, then use a buggy board.

mayblossominapril · 22/08/2021 21:28

I’ve a baby jogger city mini double, it’s great. Mine was at least third hand cheap on Facebook and I wish I’d bought a new city mini gt but I didn’t know I’d still be using it a year later!
I tried the sling and single buggy it was fine for going for a walk but not for a day out if I was on my own or if the baby needed a nappy change or toddler needed a nappy change.
Also tried a buggy board that’s just hard work.

WeAllLikeVindaloo · 22/08/2021 21:31

@mayblossominapril
How do you find it goes through doors etc? Is it convenient? My mil has got us one off Facebook and I’ve yet to really test it out 🙈 baby will be here in 4weeks!

Sunshinegirl82 · 22/08/2021 21:33

Out n about nipper! Can still push it one handed with a 5 and 2 year old!

FiFiTrixa · 22/08/2021 21:39

I have an 18 month age gap and spent ages looking for the perfect double pram (both forward facing, fits through doors, fits in the car boot, sturdy to push with one hand) and couldn’t find anything.

I ended up having the newborn in a sling for the first few month and now have a buggy board/seat combo which we use on longer journeys. If we’re out and the toddler get tired unexpectedly (when I don’t have the buggy board with me) I just put the baby in the carrier and the toddler in the pushchair. It’s worked well for us over the last 15 months.

FiFiTrixa · 22/08/2021 21:40

Here’s the buggy board/seat we use

I loved my icandy orange. It's a tandem so can be used as either a single or double. The back of the frame is a built in buggy board for tired toddler to hop on when in single mode too.
Huge basket fit all the stuff I needed for a baby and toddler and it's very easy to steer one handed too

Willow4987 · 22/08/2021 21:43

We had the silvercross wave because I wanted a tandem that I could use in different configurations and as a single. However my age gap was 18 months

By the time DS1 got to about 2, he wouldn’t use the pram anymore so he went on a buggy board instead

I think if I had a 2.5 age gap I’d probably sling the baby if possible if you wanted to use the pram for the older child for a bit longer, but get a buggy board for the older one when the baby’s in the pram. They’ve been in aldi recently at good prices (probably still online)

fluffybunny98765 · 22/08/2021 21:51

Another vote for Out n About Double Nipper. Got mine second (or third or fourth) hand on Facebook marketplace. It's a hideous lime green but does the job perfectly! I have 18m between my two and the baby was in the carrycot for 3 months before outgrowing it (he's long) but the seats go back completely flat so he's been fine in it since then. It's narrow enough to fit through pretty much every doorway. It does mean the seats are fairly narrow but my older one hasn't complained. The big wheels/tyres are great, really shows up the babyzen yo-yo as rattley as anything when I take one of them out alone in it!

BurningBenches · 22/08/2021 21:56

Babyjogger City mini double here too. Goes through a standard front door, I have the bassinet with it. DS is just turned 2 and dd is 9wks old.

As others have said you can pick them up 2nd or 3rd hand easily. Ive heard good things about the out and about too.

I did try recently taking DS who is a really good walker in terms of stamina and DD in my single with a sling so letting him walk and her in the buggy. Absolute disaster, he decided to leg it towards the road and i really struggled to get him into pushchair with DD in the sling. Whereas id have found it easier to get him into the double when he was tired. Or maybe I should have slinged him.

ImNotCrazyIWasTested · 22/08/2021 21:57

There's less than 13 months between my 2 and I had every type of double, the up and down (britax b-dual) the massive tandem (obaby zoom tandem) and side by side (baby jogger city mini) and the baby jogger lasted the longest. The seats were still comfortable of my 3 year old even though she was the size of a 5 year old it was a dream to push and the only doorway I had a problem with was my front door as it's a 90° turn as soon as you get in (the b-dual only just made it!)

boymum88 · 22/08/2021 22:07

I have a I candy peach for my 3yr ( has health issues so can't walk) and my 4month old. Still easy to push. Also have a joie aire twin in the grey, which we got to take on holiday as didn't want to take the expensive pram on the plane and have got to say was very impressed as it's a cheaper double still light weight easy to push

stormelf · 22/08/2021 23:33

I have an egg tandem (already had egg as single pushchair for first child) and a Phil and Ted's dot. I basically only use Phil and Ted's dot now. My oldest is 3 and pops in and out as she wants into the back seat

TowelStripes · 22/08/2021 23:38

I had a double bugger for my 17 month old when her younger brother was born but I dropped using it when she was about two and a half as she was able to use the buggy board and he went in the single buggy. So much easier.

I bought the universal buggy board with a seat on it so she didn't have to stand. It was about £100 but I've got loads more use out of it then the double buggy I got for £300 which in only used for a few months really.

TowelStripes · 22/08/2021 23:39

I had the mountain duet, and loved it fit through the front and back doors like a single! I could take it on the bus too. Just didn't fold down small, which was a bugger

idontlikealdi · 22/08/2021 23:44

I had the donkey - pain in the arse, taking the seats off to fold it. Chassis is huge even when folded.

Gut the baby jogger city twin - brilliant buggy. Big seats, huge sun shades, seats go properly flat, single handed fold, could fit it in the boot if our car easily when all 7 seats were up. And the wheels can't puncture which they did in the donkey.

Catherine1210 · 23/08/2021 07:36

I’ve spent ages researching and will go with the mountain buggy duet with my next, it’s narrow so not as wide as some other buggy’s so can get through door ways still. A friend with a donkey struggled with that.

Folds all in one and fits in a small boot!

Ticks all our boxes. You can buy the carry cot addition or do what I am and using a carrier for the first 6 months and a single pram I already have. Then moving onto the mountain buggy duet when I can put baby in the regular seat!

Ava50x · 23/08/2021 09:42

I had the baby Jogger city mini double, I hated it. Very awkward to push and just didn't like it. Sold it and went into an independent nursery store who recommended either the Mountain buggy duet or My Child easy twin. I have the My Child which I hugely recommend. Its a breeze to push, very comfortable seats, is a stylish grey colour, folds down well and is just a great all rounder for a good price.

Helenmumoftw0 · 23/08/2021 19:24

Thanks everyone! I wouldn’t be able to use a sling on days out as my 5 year old has adhd and is a runner! Baby would get wip lash Shock I think I might look into a baby jogger for longer walks / days out and get a single travel system with a buggy board to? Hmm

MB Duet was brilliant for us. Fits through all doorways and on all sizes of buses. Really light to push. Needs a big boot to fit in though.
