Early bleeding - confused...

Hello,

I'm 16 weeks pregnant and I went to see a consultant on Tuesday. We discussed the fact that I bled three or four times during the first 12 weeks and he's decided based on that information to have me back for extra scans at 28, 32 & 36 weeks. He said something about early bleeding could mean the placenta is detaching/moved (something like that) and that he'd like to do growth scans to check baby isn't getting too big. I'm not worried as I know that he's only taking precautions and everything will probably be fine but I can't make the connection between the placenta thingy and the growth thingy. I asked him to explain again but I've forgotten what he said - Dumbo!! Has anyone ever heard anything like this before?

Right at the start of our meeting he told me to lay off the refined sugars as I'm a bit overweight and need to beware of the whole diabetes thing (Great Christmas I'll be having!!). I totally understand this but what he said about the bleeding was completely separate.

No advice, but thought I would bump in case any of the lazy slugabeds have woken up yet

lots of people have light early bleeding, so try not to worry unduly. there can be lots of (not serious) explanations.

I can guarantee that when you get to 28, 32 and 36 weeks you'll be really pleased of the chance to see your baby at such an advanced stage. most don't get scans after 20 weeks. it means they are taking close care of you, which is excellent.

hey bobsi - I really wouldn't worry and just see it as a great op to see your little one regularly and get extra checks. I had light bleeding 5 times during first 13 weeks and had scans after each bleed. I've had no bleeding since then and no-one has mentioned a thing about the placenta. I'm 38 weeks today, and had a growth scan last week coz they thought the little fella was too small, anyway he's pretty much spot on, just a tad small, but nothing to worry about it. Enjoy the scans and please don't worry x

Thanks everyone, I'll just try and forget what he said. I think I'm a bit paranoid that this baby is going to be huge. It's second time around and I seem to be growing a lot quicker this time :-/ Anyway, I shouldn't worry about things that haven't happened should I?

Nice to hear from other mums here who have also experienced bleeding in the first trimester, but not later on!

I'm expecting my 4th baby.
I've had bleeding on and off durning the first 12 weeks (am nearly thirteen weeks now - and it has stopped again - for the moment!).

I have had a few scans, all was fine, it was mentioned to me that "possibly" I might have a low placenta, but not to worry, wait and see at the 20w scan.

I'm just really hoping NOT to get bleeding in the latter 2 trimesters (I did with my 2nd child) as I really want a water birth, and think they might not want me to if I have had more bleeds.

with my 2nd child I had a lot of scans - more because of the bleeds, but the growth was always normal (not too big or too small!). However, they did induce me early to be on the safe side - this was because of the ongoing bleeds though.

Hope everything works out for you, and there are no more worries about your baby!
