35 weeks pregnant with COVID

Hi,

Iv just tested positive for COVID and I’m 35+1 pregnant with my first baby.
I don’t have any ‘typical’ symptoms however for the last 3-4 days I have been experiencing pain in my sternum and upper back when breathing in and when eating. Iv been struggling to keep any food down and generally lacking energy.

I had put this down to a combination of just being pregnant and suffering indigestion.

Has anyone else had covid at this stage of pregnancy and have any words of wisdom. I called the antenatal triage but they just told me to call my GP for advice if i feel unwell. But I’m not really sure how I should be feeling at this stage of pregnancy.

I’m due to have a csection due to tokophobia and have had to cancel and rearrange my appt to schedule a date with my consultant which is adding to my worries. I would have no idea what to do if I went into labour.

Thanks in advance for any advice.
(I had my first covid vaccine 12 days ago)

I’m 35 weeks and just tested positive too, it’s my second baby. We can do this together! I feel absolutely boiling but that’s about it. My midwife and GP have just said to get in touch if I feel unwell and any concerns about baby then to ring assessment and they will still see me as normal. It’s good it’s your first baby it could mean you have abit more time.

theworldhasgoneinsane · 20/08/2021 20:59

I understand your worries OP and @Ilikechips

OP- if you're worried I'd call and seek advice from consultant about the c section, don't know whether you're a routine patient or high risk but I think they should give you dates of when you will be seen, as this will understandably be making you anxious, then you will have something to work towards. Don't sit and worry alone, I'd be phoning and requesting an appointment to make a plan.

However, a friend of mine had covid when she was in labour and her and baby were absolutely fine! Good luck and enjoy your baby 😊

@FTMRLH sorry to hear. You must be worried. I don't have COVID but I work in a hospital. If you feel short of breath or have chest pain, you must get assessed. You know your body, if something doesn't feel right then please get help from maternity Unit. Don't know why they're telling you to speak to GP as if you're unwell at this stage of pregnancy you're seen by maternity assessment unit. Take care and keep us updated! Good luck

Discomummy22 · 21/08/2021 00:25

Please attend A&E urgently if they won’t see you at maternity assessment. Covid and pregnancy both increase your risk of a blood clot in your lungs which can be life threatening. Hopefully, this is not the case but it’s impossible to say without a proper assessment. Please don’t wait until Monday to speak to your GP, this is classed as an emergency so very appropriate to attend A&E. Get well soon!

Thoughts are with you both and crossing my fingers for you both that you'll be lucky and have a swift recovery.
Remember to eat and drink regularly and move about the house even if you're not able to go out at the mo.

Ilikechips · 21/08/2021 11:45

How are you doing today OP?

Vallmo47 · 21/08/2021 11:50

I echo the others. Hope you’re okay op.

missturnbullx · 21/08/2021 19:57

@FTMRLH I am 34+3 and currently waiting to go get tested for covid. I am also due to have a c section and have an appointment with the doctor to arrange that date at 36 weeks. No advice really other than I hope everything goes ok for you and I can understand your worries. X

FTMRLH · 21/08/2021 20:03

Thank you all,
I did call maternity triage before posting this but they didn’t seem concerned at all.
I feel slightly better today. Lethargic and sniffly but otherwise well.
I think the pain in my back and chest may have been from over doing it around the house combined with indigestion.
I have had much smaller portions of food today and gaviscon after every meal, and I seem to be managing better.

My husband is symptom free today so I’m hoping I will follow in his footsteps in the coming few days.

Hope @missturnbullx your ok and you test negative. Is your section due to medical reasons, or maternal request?

@Ilikechips hope your feeling ok too

xxxx

@FTMRLH I really hope you start to feel better.

And yes they are for medical reasons, so I'm petrified if I go in to labour and have covid. I'm already at risk of preterm labour so adding covid in to the mix will just set my anxiety right off 😩

Are you vaccinated? X

FTMRLH · 21/08/2021 20:38

Iv only had my first vaccine so far. How about you? X

@FTMRLH no I haven't had it. My midwife advised against it in pregnancy. So will probably be getting it after baby is born. X

FTMRLH · 21/08/2021 20:44

Mine was originally against it but now all the research is in favour of it, my consultants and midwives have both encouraged it. I did a lot of research beforehand though to make sure I was making an informed decision. There’s an Instagram page that’s really helpful called ‘pregnantthenscrewed’

@FTMRLH I will check that out thank you. It's so daunting as I've had different information from my midwife. But I'll check out that Instagram, thank you.

Just to ask how long did it take for you to get a positive test?

So, I was exposed to covid on Wednesday. Was with a close friend and her daughter. I picked her up, we went shopping, went for lunch, our kids played, I played with her daughter, she helped me load shopping bags to the car. Next day her husband gets a positive covid test, then hers follows.

I've not yet got any symptoms really. Think the ones I'm having I'm imagining. I did a lateral flow test this morning which was negative and have my pcr booked tomorrow. Just wondering how you got your positive and if you know how long after exposure it was?

Absolutely just going out of my mind with anxiety. X

FTMRLH · 21/08/2021 21:51

@missturnbullx I think I was originally exposed at a wedding last Saturday. Although I don’t have any typical symptoms I have felt more tired and achy with a runny nose.

My husband and myself both took lateral flow tests everyday since the wedding. He tested positive on the Wednesday night, and then positive PCR Thursday, i tested positive Friday morning and positive PCR Friday evening

X

@FTMRLH

Hey I had covid at about 34 weeks took about 10 days to feel 100% again
Very tired bit of a cough and loss of appetite
I still can't smell anything and I'm 36+3 now

Baby is fine tho!

Hope you feel better soon OP and @Ilikechips

missturnbullx · 21/08/2021 22:06

@FTMRLH oh I'm so nervous for this wait. I just want to know 😩
I have a midwife appointment Monday which I really wanted to attend as my feet as severely swollen and although I've attended the day unit at hospital to check for preeclampsia, the problem hasn't got better. I can barely walk and have low PAPP-A. So I take aspirin daily and I'm
Already at risk of a preterm birth so this whole covid thing is just scaring me.
I'm glad your symptoms are mild. It's uncomfortable enough being in the third trimester. Never mind being poorly with covid too x

FTMRLH · 21/08/2021 22:09

@missturnbullx

Well it could be highly likely that my symptoms are pregnancy related too. It’s so hard to tell.

Fingers crossed you stayed well. Hopefully if your lateral flows are negative you will have escaped it for now :) xx
