2nd baby and braxton hicks v early

I am 29 weeks with my second child. I have been having braxton hicks contractions since about 17 weeks, usually in the evening when I sit down to watch tv and usually 3 or 4 of them per night.

Today however I have been getting them all day from about lunch time. No real pattern to them but I've probably had about 10 of them today. Take my breath away a bit but no pain.

Did anyone else experience this?

I did with my third. Never had them with my first two. Got them very early on with my third and would sometimes get them all day and night. Even when I ent into labout it took me nearly 2 hours to decide wether if was braxton hicks or actually contractions. Should be fine OP, but if you are really worried call in and ask.

@Iminaglasscaseofemotion Thanks for your reply! I'm surprised at just how often I get them. I wonder if its any indication that this babe will be an early arrival (not yet tho please) as DS1 was 2 weeks late.

I’m currently 35+3 weeks pregnant with baby number 4 and had never had bh with any of my previous pregnancies, but this time I’ve felt them since around 20 weeks.

Since about 28 weeks I’ve experienced them pretty regularly every day.

Today I had to pull over whilst driving because whilst not painful it was enough to take my concentration away from the road.

I’d say I get a minimum of 10 a day. So far no signs baby is coming anytime soon, although I’m booked in for a section in 2 weeks anyway lol.

If you’re worried no harm in calling. I had some while I was in being monitored for reduced movements once and they were able to confirm they were just bh and not the real deal.

Not for me unfortunate 🤣 she was still a week late, but that was less than the other 2!

mummabubs · 19/08/2021 22:24

Not sure if there's a confirmed correlation. Anecdotally I didn't get them until quite late with my 2nd dc, but with my first I had them daily from about 18 weeks, sometimes multiple times an hour and I went to 42+2- even then I had to be induced as he did not want to come out 😂

Yes I've had BH with all 3 but with this one they started early. They can be quite uncomfortable. I notice they happen a lot more after activity, so a brisk walk will often result in uncomfortable BH.

It wasn't a sign of anything with mine unfortunately. They never even engaged head down, and I never got beyond 6cm dilated - they've all come out via the sunroof...

Very interesting! Maybe it's just wishful thinking, I don't want to go 2 weeks over again 😂

I'm not particularly worried, I wonder if I'm getting more today because I had a particularly busy day yesterday (decorating) and I didn't sleep very well.

Hi OP. I’ve been getting them since 16 weeks. They do seem to vary in intensity - most pass without me really noticing but I have had a few in the last few weeks that really took my breath away. I’m 31 weeks now and no signs of labour. I’ve noticed for me they seem to be more frequent when I’ve been doing strenuous activity (in the middle of an extension so have been pushing it moving things around or when I’m a bit dehydrated and haven’t been drinking enough. If your worried tho please call your mat unit x

You get them from the first trimester you just usually don't feel them. I've always got them from early on and they've always been painful. My first two were 8 and 12 days late and I'm assuming my third will be the same 😅
This is what Mr Google says about it 🙂
"Braxton Hicks contractions occur from early in your pregnancy but you may not feel them until the second trimester. If this is your first pregnancy, you might start to feel them from about 16 weeks. In later pregnancies, you may feel Braxton Hicks contractions more often, or earlier. Some women won't feel them at all."

I’ve been getting them a lot too. Sad to read it doesn’t mean an early arrival for baby 😂 I had a full day of them at 29 weeks. Oh well…
