Hey everyone ,

I'm really on two minds of having the Covid vaccine I'm nearly 15 weeks pregnant and it has took me a long time to get to where I am today and the advice I have been given seems safe enough but there are odd few people who's it has effected during pregnancy but we don't know if they had any underlining health issues! I am fit and healthy I will attach what I was sent by a midwife about getting the vaccine what are your thoughts people? Need someone who is pregnant to talk to about it x

I'm very early, just 5 weeks but after speaking with my GP and my midwife I decided to get my first jab yesterday. I spent hours researching and for me, I just feel the risks are much safer than the risks of catching Covid so I'd like to be fully vaccinated before I reach the third trimester. That's really the only reason I decided to take it, as before I found out I was pregnant I wasn't really bothered about getting it.

I do travel a lot for work, just between the UK and Ireland so that also played a part in my decision. This Facebook group is great and you can read a lot of other women's experiences to help you make a decision www.facebook.com/groups/433459851127376/?ref=share xx

Thank you for your message, I will have a look on the Facebook group, what vaccine did you get? I've heard the Pfizer is the better one? But not to sure x

I second that it’s better to get it! What happened to me was I was pregnant when they first starting giving them out but I was outside the recommended time to get it, I think I was 36 weeks and 1 day and they wouldn’t let me have it. I was heartbroken at the time and really nervous for me and baby as the data was starting to really show how dangerous Covid was in pregnancy. This is even more the case now with even more research. As soon as I was allowed after the birth I got mine but honestly I wish so much I could have had it in the pregnancy in the hope the baby might have had some protection. It’s such a personal choice to make but research wise it one hundred percent points to way more benefit over risk as you tend to suffer worse in pregnancy than normal. I understand the worry completely as even though I wanted it in pregnancy more than anything I was still like what if… but for sure if I get pregnant again I’ll be getting my booster or whatever is necessary at the time to keep safe!

Hiya, and congrats on your pregnancy!

Have a watch of this webinar - I'm 33 weeks pregnant, and was vaccinated (with Moderna) at 22 and 30 weeks.

I found it really helped me make my decision - a few different experts, and a good Q&A at the end.

In the UK you can have Pfizer or Moderna when you are pregnant.

xomum · 19/08/2021 12:12

Yeah I got the Pfizer one and have no side effects at all apart from a sore arm! I just kept some paracetamol on hand incase I felt a fever come on but didn't need to take them.. speak to your own GP too if you have any concerns but with the latest figures of how Covid is affecting pregnant women I think most of us will be urged to get it xx

SouthwestSis · 19/08/2021 12:30

The vaccines are so much safer than catching covid and anyone left unvaccinated is now a sitting duck now that the virus has let rip across the UK as restrictions have been lifted.
Had pfizer at 5 and 13ish weeks and very happy with my decision, feel a lot safer now as I'm getting more heavily pregnant, scans all perfect and pregnancy progressing well

m0therofdragons · 19/08/2021 12:33

I’m involved in the vaccine roll out at my hospital and we’re focusing off informing pregnant women. The total college of obstetricians and gynaecologists did a fab faqs if you Google. We have 3 midwives currently pregnant and all three are vaccinated (pfizer).

m0therofdragons · 19/08/2021 12:33

Royal college not total college

Bells3032 · 19/08/2021 12:40

there has been no evidence of ill effects of the vaccine on pregnancy but there is evidence of severe impact from covid.

there are people saying we don't know the long term effects of the vaccine but we also don't know the long term effects of covid on a fetus either not even including the possibility of causing premature labour etc so find that argument quite ridiculous.

I would take my chances and get vaccinated asap. good luck with your pregnancy OP

I haven’t read all the replies so apologies if I’m repeating but this is my take.. To be transparent I am asthmatic, fully vaccinated with AZ - had first jab pre pregnancy and second at 10 weeks. Currently 21 weeks and baby is healthy.

The effects of covid on the placenta and mother are known and proven. They can lead to early birth, stillborns and low birth weight.

Your risk of being ventilated as a pregnant woman is double that of a non pregnant woman of the same age with covid.

If you have to be ventilated they will need to deliver the baby, whether it is viable or not, to save your life.

There are no proven, associated risks from the vaccine that have been reported.

The technology for the vaccine has been tested and around for a while.

It is a personal choice but, for me based on the facts it was a no brainer.

Greytminds · 19/08/2021 13:02

I had the vaccine at 20 and 28 weeks. Now 34 weeks and all is still well. The poster above has very clearly articulated the covid risks. There are so many cases around now and it will only be worse during the winter. In my city there have been 200 pregnant women a week admitted to hospital in recent weeks. Any risks of having the vaccine (which theoretically and scientifically are minimal) are far outweighed by the protection the vaccine can give you and your baby.

CPDubs · 19/08/2021 13:07

I had mine at 9 weeks and 16 weeks. I’m now 22 weeks and everything so far is fine. I did a lot of research and was very happy with my decision :)

Olafthemoth · 19/08/2021 13:28

You are fit and healthy now but once you reach your 3rd trimester you will be in a group considered very vulnerable to covid complications. You have an opportunity to reduce your vulnerability (and that of your baby) hugely by having the vaccine. Please take that opportunity.

choccrumpet · 19/08/2021 13:28

I agree with everyone's comments. The vaccine is far safer than risk of catching COVID during pregnancy. I got my first Pfizer vaccine around 3-4 weeks pregnant and second at 11 weeks. So happy I made this decision! My midwife and GP were encouraging which helped.

chelabel · 19/08/2021 15:11

Thank you for everyone's input after reading all theses it has made my decision I will be getting it I think the Pfizer is most nearest to me so I will be going to walk in centre tomorrow morning thank you so much 💕 and congratulations to you all xx

I got my first (Moderna) during my fertile week. Conceived after 9 months of trying and got my second two weekends ago at 10 weeks. For me the risk to myself and my baby if I caught covid were too big to ignore. I had a private scan already booked for Saturday past and everything seems to be progressing in line with the number of weeks I am so feel good about my decision.
