Good and bad. I thought i was prepared but talked it thru properly with mw and i may be admitted from 32 weeks - MAJOR childcare issues as DP won't get paid if he doesn't work.

Please don't tell me that there is a possibility my placenta will move. Chances are that it won't. Apparently its embedded into the top of the cervix rather than uterus wall meaning it will not move as uterus stretches.

Ummm - what kind of stories were you hoping for?

2nd pg - grade IV pp diagnosed at 32 weeks, major bleed in the middle of the night at 34 weeks. Continued bleeding on and off for 15 hours (in hospital, attached to monitors etc). Went into labour. Had cs (under spinal, all nice and orderly). Ds spent a week in intensive care and a week with me on the ward and then we went home. Both of us were fine.

3rd pg - pp diagnosed at 16 wks as they're on the lookout this time. Spotting from 13 weeks onwards. Major bleed at 23 weeks but no contractions this time and it bleeding stopped completely after a week. Then they diagnosed placenta accreta too. 3 more weeks in hospital before I discharged myself and spent 3 weeks at home on the sofa. And I'm now back in hospital, at 31 weeks, with a cs planned for 34 weeks.

Babies are great but placentas are overrated...

Fruitful, sadly we have very similar stories. With my first grade 4 i got to 31 weeks, dd was in scbu for 6 weeks.

Second one got to 27 weeks, ds in scbu for 7 weeks.

PP discovered at 20 weeks. did not get to see consultatnt for a further 9 weeks to discuss grade and manamgment options. went private and had much better scans with details etc. Grade iv and never moved. had cs 4 weeks early. found out had actually started labour on the day of cs. good thing I went private as NHS did not want to know until i was 38 weeks.

No personal experience, but friend have v bad placenta previa. She had excellent treatment (went to see Prof Nicolaides in Harley Street - wonderful man!), ended up with hysterectomy (sorry to scare you) but she wasn't upset cos it was no.3 and she didn't want any more, and is now ok. She went back to work after 3 months!

Can you contact local council to see about emergency nursery places for your child? Is there anyone at all who can help? (Difficult, i know!)

How far do you live from the hospital?

They want to admit you because you may suddenly start bleeding a lot, with no warning. It doesn't hurt at all but it can really gush out of you. But bedrest etc doesn't necessarily help - they only want you in hospital in case you bleed, not because being there will stop it happening IYSWIM.

If you live close enough you can stay home and be prepared to pile into an ambulance if it happens.

MerlinsBeard · 03/12/2007 10:21

thats what i am hopeing fruitful (the staying at home bit) I live a slow 10 min walk from the hospital.

I don't know what you mean about council places? DS2 has speech problems and if he can't communicate he will lash out, thats my main worry with him.. Also, neither of the DSs cope very well with a change in routine so the more prep i can do with them and any potential carers the better!

DS1 is at school (4.5) so he is shufflable and DS2 is 2.5

If you're that close to the hospital I really don't see why you'd have to go in unless you bled. You'd get there before the doctors were ready for you anyway. You could make sure you always have someone on standby that you could phone if you needed to hand the kids to someone in a hurry.

This is the Royal Collage of Gynaes info on praevia. It is a bit scary but it is well-written and factual and it is what NHS practice is based on.

I am told that I am at risk of placenta accreta. I had previa last time and have had 8 ops since so scarring alot worse. Also the various adhesions have attached to bowel. So messy. I want to make sure that I get referred to right consultant early on and a midwife friend has urged me not to go to local hospital.

Does anyone have a good consultant to recommend...that didnt end up with the hysterectomy but the "leaving in option" in and around the London region. I can go private if neccessary?

Struggling to know who to go to, GP will refer if she has a name?
Thanks
