Stopping aspirin in late pregnancy

I’m 35+2 and have been taking 150mg aspirin daily since 1dpo due to recurrent miscarriages.

Consultant agreed I should remain on it also due to my bmi (30) and the fact my blood pressure has been slightly high throughout.

Fast forward to now and I have a c section scheduled for 37+4 due to having developed gestational diabetes and having been injecting insulin daily for over 5 weeks now.

I’ve been told to stop taking the aspirin at 36 weeks and I’m honestly terrified.

I know I’m being irrational but I’m petrified and can’t stop thinking in that week and a half I won’t be taking it, something awful will happen and I’ll lose my baby.

I don’t even know my point of this post, I think I just needed to get out how scared I’m feeling, even if I know I’m being silly. My partner is so supportive but is very much a positive thinker and wouldn’t ever entertain the idea that something could go wrong.

Has anyone else taken aspirin throughout their pregnancy, stopped it later on and everything been ok?

Talk to your consultant about your concerns and see what they say. The reason they ask you to stop is because apirin and c-sections both can individually increase your risk of a pph. If you have specific conditions like a clotting disorder then that might be a risk they are willing to take (my consultant did with me) but you need to bottom it all out with them.

some NHS trusts can provide high risk patients a doppler scan daily / every other day from 36 to 37 weeks. Alternatively you could pay a private company - but if you do then pick one that uses only current nhs ultrasound techs.

Thank you @Ozanj, I think I will try to speak to my consultant again just to be absolutely certain she wants me to stop at 36 weeks.

I do trust her, she’s delivered my 3 children all by section, although this is the first pregnancy I’ve had to take aspirin or had GD.

Think I just need reassurance from her.

I am having a c-section next Tuesday at 38+3 and have been told to stop taking it from yesterday so 37+3.
I didn't stop it with my son and had an emergency section and although was all fine I did lose quite a lot of blood so I'm hoping stopping a week before will help.
Good luck, I'm sure you will be fine.

I've also been told to stop the aspirin at 36 weeks, will be having a C-section too.
It sounds like speaking to your consultant is the best option to provide peace of mind.

I had to stop at 36 weeks. It was fine. I have T1 diabetes, am overweight and older (was 40/41). I'm not sure that tge asprin still prevents miscarriage this far into the pregnancy, I believe that later on it is more to prevent pre eclampsia/eclampsia? That you could also monitor by checking your blood pressure every few days. Do you have a blood pressure monitor (or whatever it's called in english)?

Thank you all. I feel somewhat more reassured but think I will get that call with my consultant just to double check everything. I know I’ll feel happier.

I do have a blood pressure monitor at home that I use every couple of days anyway due to having had high blood pressure, but thankfully so far no signs of pre eclampsia.
