This is my first baby, and I was just curious tk what happens at these appointments! The only reason that I can think of why I’ve got this appointment is due to my under active thyroid but I’m on medication for this.

Can anyone tell me their experiences with first time consultant appointments? X

They may review your bloods, or arrange for more. They should discuss how hypothyroidism may effect your pregnancy's

Mine was a consultant appointment because my first child was breech. My consultant likes to see people early, so we met at 14 weeks. It was super positive. We just discussed how I was feeling about VBAC and made a really comprehensive plan of care. It really put my mind at rest knowing what the plan was going forward.

I thought everyone got a midwife appointment at 16 weeks?

Mines was on the phone, and honestly totally pointless. The midwife (who was filling in because my actual midwife was on a/l), couldn’t answer any of my questions and only asked me “are you feeling okay”.

I did have an in person consultation with a doctor and midwife at 18 weeks, but that was for a specific issue.

I had one but due to IVF an pregnancy.
I also had no idea what it was for until I got there.
They'll talk you through how it effects your pregnancy and put a plan in place, so regular thyroid checks, could even prescribe something etc.

The OP says it's a consultant appointment @GallowwayGirl88.

I'd love to be able to tell you OP but having been told I'd be consultant led I have my first one this week at 32 weeks 🙄 but I would guess it's to have a chat about your thyroid and any implications for pregnancy if there isn't anything else that's likely to have triggered it, I wouldn't be too worried just have a think in advance of any Q's you might like to ask.

Thanks everyone! I’ll have to think of some questions to ask! Hopefully it won’t be nothing bad! X
