I just wondered if anyone knows how important progesterone levels are in pregnancy and why??

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

Progesterone levels are extremely important during pregnancy and in general for fertility. A low level of progesterone indicates the possibility that the body would be unable to sustain a pregnancy. There is a range of levels that are normal so its not necessary to have a specific number but its important to be somewhere in the range. Progesterone helps the uterus to have the right environment for pregnancy and after implantation it helps the fetus to grow.

Thank you for explaining. Do you know the normal range in early pregnancy? I had my HCG and progesterone taken they said HCG was a good rise and progesterone was 82.4 then 91 (48 hours later) but I have no idea what it actually means (and they didn't explain it).

Thanks

There are different ways of measuring it in different labs, for Pregnancy
in the 1st trimester the normal ranges are 11.2 to 90.0 ng/mL or 35.62 to 286.20 nmol/L so either way your progesterone is in the normal range so it sounds promising so far.
