PGP Problems

I've suffered with terrible pgp since around 22 weeks I'm now 40+5 and still suffering, midwife just says it will go once baby is born and the doctor has prescribed me some strong pain killers, I've been worried for a while that I'm not going to be able to give birth naturally because the pain is so severe,
Has anyone had pgp and given birth ok?

Hiya, yes I had it in my last pregnancy and had a vaginal delivery. I had an epidural so didn't even think about pain! Have you been referred to a specialist physio? I saw one in my last pregnancy and had hydrotherapy, which helped.

Oh sorry realised you're 40 weeks pregnant so a bit late for physio referral!

Pelvic partnership website. List of practitioners and all the tips.

I had it BAD during first pregnancy (crutches at 25 weeks, housebound by 31). I was 95% better within a week of giving birth. Saw an osteopath with training for pregnancy 6 months post partum. Had two sessions with her and all pain was gone.

Saw her throughout my pregnancy with ds and avoided crutches. Could walk into hospital!! I'm 4 months post partum and probably could do with a session with my osteopath. I get some twinges if I walk too fast now. But again, I'm at least 95% better.

I was so depressed during my first pregnancy wondering if the pain would go. If I would be in constant pain for the rest of my life... it helped me soooo much seeing the osteopath knowing there was a PLAN for my second pregnancy. While I still had pain during my second pregnancy and used my steps only when I needed them, it was chalk and cheese. I could go to a shop. I could get out of bed without help. It was soooo much better!!!

Thank you for this! I'm 33 and MW said the same to me last week. Braxton Hicks started the day after I seen her and I'm doubled in pain when they both hit at once. Not able to walk level of pain

My NDN asked me yesterday 'because of your PGP do you think they'll CS you?' And it made me think so hard. I wasn't sure who to ask

Seems others have been able to give vaginal birth and after effects not too bad which was a real worry I had

I had both vaginal deliveries. Had a very long latent phase with the first and ended up having augmented labour and an epidural (which only worked on one side). I think the epidural (and subsequent forceps) lead to the slight bowel and bladder prolapses that I have. No additional injuries with second birth.

I remember listening to one woman on the phone in post natal ward jabbering on about how 4 days after her cs she could 'hardly walk'. She was hopping off her bed, walking to the loo with a sprightly step, etc... and I was there thinking, 'you have no idea, love.'

But I digress...

Not to put a downer on it, but so many times I read how pgp magically disappeared after pregnancy.

For me it didn't. It improved but I still could barely walk for months after the birth.

11 years after last pregnancy, if i walk too far, think day trip at the zoo walkingeverywhere, my hip would start to go. Also the dragging feeling in my crotch would return.

Nowhere as bad as pregnancy, most times fine, but long long walks are no longer doable. This is after physio, osteopath and personal training!

In terms of giving birth, both of mine were fine.

If you have an epidural it's really important that before having it you let the doctor's see your comfort level for opening your legs so if intervention is needed they know not to force your legs past that point.

Just wanted to share, as I wish I'd known for some people pgp/spd doesn't completely go after giving birth.
