Moving house whilst pregnant

DH and I are in the process of selling our respective flats and buying a family home. Our flats are on opposite sides of London (west and east) and we are looking at houses in east.

My gp is based in west London so my question is does anyone have experience of moving during pregnancy? Will this cause issues registering for antenatal appointments? Should I ask my gp to allow me book appointments with a practice closer to where we're moving to or just wait until we complete on a family home and move gp then?

Sorry for the rambling x

I told my midwife when we had a moving date and she sorted everything out for me. She booked an appointment with my new community midwife for a week after we moved, made sure everything got transferred over with new address etc. I registered with new GP once we had moved in. I was about 7 months pregnant at the time.

@Alltimeblow thank you for responding. Okay I have time then. Guess the additional stress is we are staying at DH flat which is the other side of London to my flat and gp. But I think best to stay at my gp until we move as don't want to change gps 3 times in one pregnancy.

Wait until you're settled to register with a new GP.
I doubt you'd be able to without an address anyway, unless the catchment for your partner's flat is the same as where you end up but you'd still have to change address again.

I won't have any planned contact with my GP or the surgery for my pregnancy so it wouldn't make any difference to me where they are, I know some areas do things differently.
I would mention to your midwife that you're in the process of moving just so they are aware and might be able to offer some advice when you do.

@Arecklessmanor thank you for responding. No DH flat is slightly more central compared to where we plan on buying a family home (c.1hr by public transport door to door).

I will let my midwife know and see what she says but will look to stay wherever I'm placed until we move in.

So many thoughts going through my mind.

I’m moving in the next couple of weeks and I’m 20 weeks pregnant. I spoke to my midwife and she said I would need to register with the local GP and get a midwife app and be referred to the new hospital x

I moved house about 6 weeks ago when I was 31 weeks pregnant and it was really smooth and easy. All I had to do was register with the new GP and tell them I was pregnant and they sorted everything. I never missed any appointments and everything was handed over between midwives. The only thing I found that I had to do was when moving hospital they wanted to repeat blood tests and I had to update my address etc with them but that was it really. I think it's quite common for people to move when pregnant as people move to more family friendly properties etc so they are used to dealing with it

I moved country at 17 weeks. It was a very simple process to get referred to the new maternity hospital. They are used to people moving around.

I moved at 8 months from south London to kingston.

As you need to register

Hit send to quick. As we moved close to due date I called the admin team at the local hospital. I couldn't book into the new hospital until I registered with a GP and couldn't do that till moving day.

So literally day after we moved before unpacking I was at the gp and then registered with a local midwifes.

Had to have a 'booking in appointment' and new notes so had to carry two sets of notes around, first ones from lewisham and new ones for kingston.

Don't forget though - if you need help before booking in is completed - the hospital isn't going to turn you away.

Thank you everyone for responding- you've really put my mind at ease. I'm going to concentrate on keeping this bean sticky and not worry about moving gps/hospitals because from what you've said switching isn't an issue.

Thanks again
