No cervix 18 weeks pregnant failed vaginal cerclage will an abdominal cerclage help?

Ladies I really need to hear some success stories and some information on transabdominal cerclages. I had surgery to remove precancerous cells on my cervix 10 years ago. No babies since (3 fine pregnancies prior). When I fell pregnant after 8 years of trying this time my midwife said I would need a cervical length scan. They wouldn’t do this until 16 weeks at which time said it was 25.7mm. Because it was 0.7mm over the 25mm I intervention level they refused to consider a stitch but brought me back last week to be rechecked when they said I was down to 14mm so they booked me in for a vaginal cerclage 2 days later. I couldn’t sleep for those 2 days and was in such a state. I’ve never had proper surgery and am terrified of needles. Went in for my surgery yesterday spinal was horrific took her 4 attempts to put it in and then the surgeon tried but abandoned my procedure as she said I have zero cervix in my vagina. She thinks when I had my procedure 10 years ago they basically took it all away but didn’t tell me. I am so mad about this but right now all I can think about is saving my baby. They have put me on nightly progesterone pessaries and I have put myself on bed rest only getting up for the toilet. My husband will give me bed baths and do everything else. I work from home anyway so will continue to work on my laptop from bed. I am back to see a pre term labour consultant on Tuesday for another internal scan and he will discuss a potential abdominal stitch with me but there apparently aren’t many specialists in north east England so they would have to see if they can find someone.

Has anyone else carried far on with no cervix and just progesterone / bed rest?

Has anyone had an abdominal stitch at 19 weeks? What I’ve read seems to suggest they should be done earlier?

Positive stories only please my brain just can’t cope with anything else. Thank you xx

I don’t have any personal experience but I follow the.infertile.midwife on Instagram and she had a transabdominal stitch and just had her rainbow baby if you wanted to check her page. Wishing you the very best of luck, I can only imagine how anxious you must be feeling. Bear

I didn't want to read and run but I'm afraid my story is only second-hand. It is very similar though, a family friend's daughter had the same procedure but wasn't told not to get pregnant and didn't discover the problem until she was.

I don't know the name of the procedure or if it was an abdominal stitch, but she had what she described as a mesh hammock inserted which did allow her to successfully deliver her baby. She was told she was lucky as the process was experimental and there just happened to be a surgeon at a local hospital who had done it once before.

I hope you find a successful solution too, sorry I can't be much more help. Good luck.

Hi so please join incompetent cervix uk- pregnancy related, I have ic and just managed to carry a baby to term after having a pervious baby at 28 weeks. An tac is normally placed pre pregnancy so doubt anyone would fit one at 16 weeks if they do put them in once preg normally very early on before 12 weeks, they could offer you arabin pessary or get a specialist to place the stitch. You need to contact one of the ic specialist asap ( you can have joint care) mr Simpson in Leeds and mr Shennen in London or mr Wales in London they are all very well know in the ic community for saving lady's baby's when local hospitals have given no hope.
Im happy to answer any questions u have and help in any way I can
