Risk of CMV?

I went to a friends today and she had a cold sore, I didn’t know/realise until we were leaving but our kids had been playing together, I’d accepted a drink from her etc just standard contact I guess.

I’ve never had a cold sore before and I’m 30 weeks pregnant.

Is there a risk here?

You need contact with it or fluid from it to catch it

crobo87 · 13/08/2021 19:47

It's very very unlikely that you'd catch it. You normally have to have direct contact with the coldsore

I remembered she also gave me a hug to congratulate me I’d forgotten about that, obviously no kisses or anything

CMV is something different, it's the herpes simplex virus that causes cold sores.
It's a minimal exposure, just don't snog her.

@StormInAGinGlass you will be fine. As long as you haven't kissed her or given her CPR you're very unlikely to catch anything!

Thank you all, I don’t know much about it only that I know I’ve never had a cold sore before!

My dh gets cold sores. I've never had one and neither have my 2 children

You’d need to be kissing her to catch cold sores from her.

And cold sores aren’t CMV - it’s a totally different virus.

You’re more likely to get CMV from your kid as it’s common in childcare centres / schools and kids can be shedding the virus for months after they have the infection. But again, you need direct contact with bodily fluids to catch it, e.g. saliva, urine.
