Burning nipples

I'm in my second trimester and am having unbearable sporadic episodes where my nipples feel like they're burning. So bad that it makes me want to be sick once it starts. Has anyone else experienced this?

I've have had this pretty much daily since about 26 weeks. I'm now 34 weeks and I still get it most days. I find anything touching them once they start burning makes me want to cry!
I asked midwife about it and she said it's just a pregnancy related thing.
I try to wear loose fitting clothes and a soft bra as much as possible x

Yep - between about 6 and 18 weeks would happen regularly, especially if I was cold. Really horrible. Found rubbing them helped a bit, but not really possible when I was standing in the middle of the supermarket! Seemed to come in waves, so would be horribly burning/painful for about an hour then settle down again.

Am now 23 weeks and haven’t had it recently thankfully.

Yep I had this too! Mainly in the 2nd trimester. The only thing that helped was a hot water bottle. Pain was horrendous!

Yep I had this too. I found warning them up helped. Was permanently attached to a hot water bottle at home and kept those little pocket hand warmers on me to put in my bra when I was out. You have my sympathy, it's agony.

Do you have raynauds? I get intermittent reynauds in my hands and feet when they're cold and discovered that this can also happen to your nipples when pregnant and breastfeeding. I had it happen a few times earlier in the year when it was cold and it was so so so painful. Horrible burning sensation. The nipple tends to go white when it happens. I found that if I was really aware of my boobs getting cold I could ensure I warmed them up before it started.

I had this when I was pregnant with my son and it was agony. Felt like I'd carpet burned my nipples almost, and would just come on randomly. I never found anything that helped, but just wanted to comment and say I think it's normal. Hope you find something to help x

Are you wearing a decent supportive bra? Had this really bad with first pregnancy, turns out it was because my lymph nodes weren’t draining properly because my bra wasn’t lifting and supporting my breast properly. As soon as I got a decent one fitted it made a huge difference.

I know this is an old post but to anyone reading it now - it might help to know that I had this too when I was pregnant, I was in absolute agony 7 or 8 times a day, couldn’t leave the house, it was debilitating. All of the midwives said it was normal to have breast pain when pregnant even tho I kept telling them it was nipple pain. Out of desperation I went to my GP and she helped me get a Reynauds diagnosis. I then got nifedipine, it’s what they give you when you have high blood pressure- totally safe in pregnancy. I didn’t have high blood pressure but it helps with blood flow. It was a life saver! Really reduced the amount of attacks and made it more of a tingle than burning pain.
