My wife is pregnant. She can not have any meat and can not tolerate any smell of it. I need some suggestions.

What will she eat?
How pregnant is she?

Congratulations. But suggestions for what exactly?

I've had the same despite being a massive red meat lover prior to pregnancy! Quorn is a good source of protein. TBH during my first trimester i couldn't stand much but pasta with butter and salt and vinegar crisps. I'd be led by her on what she wants

I think it's a fairly normal food aversion in pregnancy if that is what you mean? It may be a phase in her pregnancy where she can't stand it and will go back to enjoying it later on as the weeks go on, or maybe she will experience this through her whole pregnancy which is completely okay as millions of women go through their pregnancies either following a vegetarian or vegan diet.

There are plenty of really good vegetarian cookbooks and recipes online that you could try your hand at that have lots of veg, beans, pulses, lentil, nuts etc in (if you aren't used to having lots of fibre from beans/pulses/lentils etc. try to introduce these in a little more slowly otherwise if may upset your stomachs - but you can read up about this online), or there are now lots of meat replacements in supermarkets now like bean burgers in the shops as well.

If you still want to eat meat maybe for the time being you could buy pre-cooked meat if the smell of raw or cooking meat is what is she is finding hard at the moment or just have meat if you go out to eat whilst she has these aversions?

Bean, eggs, pulses will all provide protein. You needed worry about not eating meat. Tell her to get a decent pregnancy vitamin and take vitamin d (her midwife will recommend this anyway). For what it’s worth, I survived on salt and vinegar Pringles and oranges for the first 14 or so weeks of my pregnancy as I couldn’t face anything else. She will be fine.

Is this a euphemism?

Thank you everyone.

Vegetarian diet will be perfectly safe during pregnancy. I’m exactly the opposite - I’ve been a vegetarian for 15 years, and keep thinking about steak and BLTs. I’ve resisted so far, but it’s strange
