After much research I'm getting my 2nd jab today of pfizer even tho I had Astrazeneca first, its defo possible/safe/effective if anyone else is in the same boat and unsure if they can mix! Looking forward to being protected and they say the immunity is highest from this mix 😀

I had this combination too as I live abroad and the rules changed re. Astrazeneca. No issues at all :)

SouthwestSis · 11/08/2021 09:38

mixing jabs isn't available in the UK yet outside of clinical trials, will be interesting when there is more data to show what gives optimum protection, but happy to have had my 2 x pfizer for now!

Tbug · 11/08/2021 10:12

I'm in the UK @SouthwestSis and I know a few people who have mixed :)

That's interesting. I'm a vaccinator and it's certainly not standard practice although as I say I know clinical trials are underway.

Tbug · 11/08/2021 10:22

@SouthwestSis yeah I work in a GP surgery and the hospital, think its quite a new thing but seems to becoming more common, I remember at the start is was a defo no no!

Did you have to do anything in advance so you could have the mix?

I've been trying for ages and always get turned away.

Tbug · 11/08/2021 10:28

@Amichelle84 just asked my GP to write me a note, then vaccination clinic said they are happy to jab :)

Amichelle84 · 11/08/2021 10:35

Amazing! Ringing them right now.

Tbug · 11/08/2021 10:39

@Amichelle84 just be really firm! :D

@Tbug
How did you know which vaccine Centre were giving Pfizer? I asked the vaccine line and they couldn't tell me, just said I should turn up and see! That's ridiculous!

Tbug · 11/08/2021 10:44

@Applecrumble24 you can see online which ones they are offering if you book online:)

OP posts:
Applecrumble24 · 11/08/2021 10:52

@Tbug
I can't?? It doesn't say.

Tbug · 11/08/2021 10:54

You can call them directly if not. But I'm sure on the walk in centres you can see online which jabs they have

OP posts:
Applecrumble24 · 11/08/2021 11:17

@Tbug
Oh ok, I'll have a look at the walk in ones rather than booking. Thanks

@Tbug
My gp has refused to write a letter! She says it's not up to gps to make decisions on what vaccines people should have, they only go by gov.uk guidelines. Amongst all the advice and guidelines that pregnant women should have Pfizer, there is a tiny sentence that says if you had astrazeneca as your first, you should have it as your second dose

🙄 Despite the fact that there have been no studies on AZ in pregnancy!

Tbug · 11/08/2021 13:02

@Applecrumble24 thats so annoying! All they have to do is read the studies from other countries and they should want pregnant women to get jabbed as a priority 🙄 try your midwife if not, might be able to get OB to write note :)

That's what they said to me earlier. It's all so frustrating isn't it.

Applecrumble24 · 11/08/2021 13:29

@Tbug don't think my midwife will be any use. I asked her for advice on whether to get my second AZ and she said "I don't really know, it's up to you"! I'll see what the consultant says when I speak to him/her in a few weeks.

@Amichelle84 it really is! I just want some sound Medical advice from a professional, based on "up to date" scientific research and studies! Really shouldn't be this difficult 😕

Amichelle84 · 11/08/2021 13:34

It really should be!

It's also not fair when the news makes out like we are hesitant like it's our fault!

We've had barely any info, not all circumstances are the same - it's a bloody poss take tbh.

maddy68 · 11/08/2021 13:42

I had this combination too. I didnt have a single after affect with the Pfizer either. Research is also strong that by combining it gives increased immunity.

maddy68 · 11/08/2021 13:43

Ps I don't live in the UK

Tbug · 11/08/2021 16:31

Just had it, vaccinator said he was jealous cos he'd read the study lol x
