ive just found out im pg and have had a terrible experience with the nhs i am terrified at giving birth to this baby in a nhs hospital we have a genetic syndrome which we didnt know about between me and my husband and have 3 boys already 2 of them were affected it makes it virtually impossible to give birth naturally as all there skull bones are fused before birth the consultant had to look it up called craniosynostosis my boys have crouzons syndrome as the skull bones are fused when they come down the birth canal they do not mould you cannot push hence why i am scared all i wanted was an epidural last time never got one there always to busy i just got left so need advise please on where someones going to listen to me and where i can have my baby safely thank you x

Where do you live?

Sorry to hear you had such a terrible time. Ask your GP to refer you to a consultant privately - and to tell you where she would go/he would send his wife. Or just call a private hospital that does maternity direct. Try the Dr Foster website for details of care near you - can't remember exact URL but google should find it.

disneystar - you don't need private care - you need the NHS to do it's job and listen to you and take care of you both! Ring the hospital you would normally expect to attend and ask to speak to PALS - patient advice and liasion service - it's the liasion bit we neeed here. Tell them what has happened and ask them to help you get the care you want.

disneystar - you do not need to go private. You need an early appointment with the consultant and discuss your concerns.

Did you need a caesarean before?

disneystar · 29/11/2007 12:56

i always have a consultant no i didnt need a caesarean as they didnt know till he was born during labout they told me not to be so silly as i knew something was wrong they used ventouse in the end and couldnt believe what they saw he has had to have full face reconstruction as a baby im scared enough going through with this pregnancy without the fear of labour and puttin another child ar risk at the actual bith time.last time they opted me a choice of a termination but i refused so when i made a fuss eg, i want an epidural there attitude was well we warned you not what you need during labour my son is 7 now and yes looks different but hes at mainstream my babies also have congential heart disease and had double heart bypass as babies but they are all doing great we are very proud of them we know we can do it again if only my fears werent so bad yes i will seek advise from a consultant thank you for your reply

I think what I had to say has been covered. I hope you find good treatment. Best of luck.

Once you see the consultant you couls ask if it is possible to screen for this genetic probem by doing a test such as CVS or amniocentesis. You need early referral. Then you will know if this baby is affected or not and can decide whether to have C/S or not if birth is a problem. HTH.
