Put under a consultant

I've had a letter for my 12 week scan and then also a consultant letter. I was born with a hole in my heart that was fixed when I was 7, now 29, could this be the reason? Just a little worried as nothing on the letter says why?!

Yes, if you have any medical problems you will automatically be consultant led. Nothing to worry about, just means you get more scans and attention!

I was also consultant led as I had a hole in the heart as a child (it had mysteriously vanished by 16, although there are records of it up to about 13).

I had an additional scan at 21 weeks to check on the baby’s heart. That was at St Thomas’ in London (I live in Suffolk). I didn’t need any additional care and went to 40+6 and a normal delivery.

Hope that helps!

Oh, should have added- the baby is now a huge 16 year old. No heart condition. Recently had a CRY check which was all healthy.

I was under consultant care for all of my pregnancies because I have a large fibroid on the outside of my uterus. I still had uncomplicated vaginal deliveries attended by excellent midwives.

I was initially put down as consultant led due to medical history- had one appointment and discharged back to midwife care.

They did offer that I could continue to be consultant led if I felt particularly anxious or felt I needed to request a c section, but I didn't want either.

Do you have the badger app, mine says in my booking appointment notes why the consultant referral was made.

Thanks for all the reply's! I'm
Not sure if it was just the midwife worrying at my booking appointment, I won't lie she wasn't the most helpful and basically made me feel stupid for not remembering all the facts of my surgery at 7! She said I should have remembered exactly what happened! I only started going back for checks at 22ish as the surgery was pretty new when I had it and they basically knew how it would work for 15 years but not after even though the consultant at the time explained that I was one of the youngest by a good 15 years so I'm guessing quite a few have had babies since, I suppose I'll look on the positive that it will mean more scans so I'll get to see baby more
