Time off work due to pregnancy?

Hello,

I am currently 9 weeks pregnant with twins. Over the last fortnight or so I have been feeling exhausted. I'm trying to nap and rest as much as possible , but that's not really an option whilst at work and I feel it's getting too much. I don't have the option to work from home that often, and feel guilty for getting little to no work done.

My question is ... should I approach my GP and ask for sick leave ? I appreciate that everyone can feel tried during pregnancy and it will likely pass as the weeks progress. Or do I just get on with it?

I have never taken sick leave before and love my job, but feel like I need to concentrate on my pregnancy just now.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Good grief, i found the first trimester awful in both my pgs and I only had single babies!! I had hyperemisis and was told by so many people (including my boss!) to concentrate on my pregnancies. I’d give you that same advice now too.

It’s worth knowing that, by law in the UK, pregnancy related sick leave must be recorded seperately and cs not be used against you.

I had my twins in may, and honestly in the first trimester I could not lift my head off the pillow or my head out the toilet pan. I had to be signed off for a good few weeks as I was absolutely done in. (I was still being sick up to 20 weeks lol)
I didn't even hesitate to go to GP and get a sick line and my work were totally supportive of it too.
No brainer from me.

And... Meant to add CONGRATULATIONS on falling pregnant with twins

You shouldn't need to see a GP as you should be able to self certify at least the first few days off sick.
But absolutely worth taking a couple of days off and pacing yourself work wise until you're feeling better. Hope your energy lifts soon OP!

Congratulations! Personally I just booked a day or two holiday a week from week 8 to 11, and I found it did make a difference to how tired and sick I felt. Hopefully it'll pass soon also, I felt a lot better by week 12 🤞

I had twins and honestly it's not the first trimester that's the worst it's the last - unless you are planning to be signed off for 9 months I would push to work from home

I would ask to wfh or self cert for a week and see how I go.
I had a singleton pregnancy and needed time off near the end so I would think twins would be even harder near the end!
Congrats on twins!!

Take a few days off.
Check your work policy for when maternity leave is automatically triggered.
I know you are no where near it yet but I know for mine any sick time in the 4 weeks before due date starts my maternity leave.
I’m struggling in the third trimester and thinking of taking some time off sick before I get to the auto dates

@poppy101010 congratulations! I'm currently 17 weeks with twins and the first trimester was brutal for tiredness. Don't feel guilty if you need to take some time off! Do whatever you think is best for you.

I couldn't work from home but reduced my days from 5 to 4 for a month or so from weeks 7 to 13 and napped whenever I could when I was at home. I remember almost falling asleep stood up at work one day! It does get better though 😊
