Dog flea treatment, pregnant owner

Looking for some advice, my partner put flea treatment on the dog today as we do every month and I usually hold her as shes so wriggly to put it on the back of her neck. I’ve been really careful all of the other times putting it on her not to touch her on the back of the neck for 24 hours until the patch is completely absorbed and dried but today I honestly have been so absent minded and have been smoothing her, playing with her and have definitely touched the patch without thinking and like gone about my day until now like just had a sudden realisation that’s what I’ve done (baby brain is in full swing) I’m 36 weeks pregnant nearly 37 and just a bit worried that maybe I’ve touched my mouth after it, I’ve eaten food with my hands as well after touching her and have made skin contact with the treatment I really must have, we use the Itch products, they’re really effective on the fleas but just worried I’ve ingested it or something now! I have been feeling a bit more under the weather the last couple of hours like feeling sick and just extremely tired but put it down to being pregnant until now thinking about it! Sorry for the ramble just a bit worried I’ve done some harm by being thoughtless!

I did something similar with petting my neighbours dog and was really worried - my dog has the pills and so I don't have to think/worry about the wet patch. If you possibly ingested it, I'd call your midwife to check and for reassurance, especially if you've been feeling a bit poorly.

I was very worried and did a lot of googling, and it seems a lot of the medical experts were saying before 12 weeks is the biggest danger time, and if you washed your hands really well, it's too small an amount to pass through the skin on my hand and do any damage. The dog I touched only weighs ten kilos and so the dose would be low, and there'd be limited transfer. And luckily with Covid I've been washing my hands constantly - one silver lining!

Hope you're okay, but don't worry about wasting their time, give them a call x

The chance of you becoming unwell from a dogs applied flea treatment is very low.
Once it has been applied the liquid is quickly absorbed into the skin and the wet patch on the back of the neck is mainly a greasy residue, hence it takes quite a while to 'dry'.
The amount of this you may have got onto your hands and then into your mouth would be very small and probably nowhere near enough to cause an issue.
If you were physically drinking the product there may be more of an issue but I dont think there will have been enough on you to cause a need to worry.
I have pets who are medicated daily and have had no issues at all and quite often end up with medication everywhere as one likes to make life difficult!
These meds are much stronger than flea treatment and i have been absolutely fine.
If youre worried speak to your midwife but I think it should be fine.
