Best pads for post birth

Can anyone recommend the best pads to use after birth? I’m booked in for an induction next Friday so need to get some ASAP. I thought I picked some thick ones up from Superdrug but I didn’t read the packaging properly and they’re incontenince pads Grin
I don’t use pads normally as they always move and crumple so any help please.

Boots maternity pads. Nice and thick

Potatoy · 07/08/2021 21:04

I think they might also do sheets you can put on your bed.

Good luck!

PineappleWilson · 07/08/2021 21:06

I used tena pants as they contain everything well and can just be chucked away after use. God send compared to the Boots pads I'd used with DC1.

I’ve used the boots maternity pads with both of my births. I found them great.

Don’t get anything with a meshy top layer (can’t think of the correct term) it will pull on any potential stitches.

These are expensive (I used them so sparingly I have half the pack left for this coming birth!!) but they were heaven for those particularly sore days after an episiotomy. Maybe worth waiting till you know how your recovery is going as if you are recovering easily you might not need them and they might go to waste. But if you are sore, get them!

Is this your first birth? If so maybe get a few more packs than you think as it's a right pain if you run out.

MikeWozniaksGloriousTache · 07/08/2021 21:26

Thanks all! Yeah first birth, no idea what to expect in terms of bleeding. I don’t think pants would fit me as I’m plus size I don’t think they go up that big lol.

Best of luck, hope it all goes well :)

I got thick soft maternity pads from morrisons. They're pretty much the same from all places tbh, the chunky ones are most comfortable if you have stitches. Can swap to slimmer maternity pads or normal period ones as the flow slows and wounds heal.

jupeBex · 08/08/2021 06:20

I bought some from Amazon, they're the most popular if you type it in. They were good because they were wide, I found the boots ones too narrow and those first few days of heavy bleeding

Starjammer · 08/08/2021 06:44

I really like the Naturcare ones from Amazon. Really soft and absorbent.

BlobbyBloo · 08/08/2021 06:46

Bembo are the best and Bosch are decent too.

@MikeWozniaksGloriousTache I’m plus size too so the pants were a no go for me 🙈

Boots maternity pads were the best 👍🏻 Get far more than you think you’ll need! Also grab a packet of the sheets that they do. Really handy to pop on the bed to protect your mattress or for on the car seat on the way home from hospital.

I had my first baby last year. In terms of bleeding - think “very heavy period” and then times it by 10 😬🙈🤣 I expected a lot but I did not expect that 🙈

CheeseBeansToast · 08/08/2021 07:06

Totally agree with @Potatoy!!! Get so many packs as you will need them

ilikeagoodsarnie · 08/08/2021 10:33

I got given a pack from the ward I was on (think I was lucky) but I also had the always night time pads cause they weren't as bulky and I was changing every 2 hours for cleanliness anyway.

8dpwoah · 08/08/2021 10:43

I really liked the Abena pads (saw them recommended on here, bought from Amazon) as they are wider than most of the other ones which I found really uncomfortable on my stitches. Once the stitches had settled the Boots ones were fine and I also used them to make 'padsicles' as they were nice and cheap! Mind you I didn't have that much bleeding as I seemed to have left a lot of behind in the delivery room, I was really surprised. But those big pads helped with padding when sitting down as much as the blood. A ring cushion is a great purchase too!

AnnaSW1 · 08/08/2021 10:45

Boots own brand. Lovely and soft!

boymum88 · 08/08/2021 11:17

I used boots own brand one pack of the thick ones for the first few days then a pack of boots thin ones then moved on to always night pads as lovely long and thin, also look at bottoms up spray or splits for ur bits

BertieBotts · 08/08/2021 11:25

Maternity pads for sure.

I also like Always Discreet Pants for after the birth. Very comfy and you can just chuck them away when you're done instead of having to wash blood stained underwear.

20viona · 08/08/2021 11:45

Boots maternity pads best by far.

littleredberries · 08/08/2021 11:52

Nothing i bought compared to the hospital pads I was given free. Try to get hospital pads. They look more like place mats than sanitary pads tbh!

MikeWozniaksGloriousTache · 08/08/2021 12:17

Thanks ladies! I’ve ordered a load of boots ones and some Amazon ones, and some bed sheets too. I never have heavy periods so I’m bloody (no pun intended) dreading how to handle this Grin

😂😂 I was the same! You’ll be fine 😊

The shower after you give birth is an experience 🤣 so prepare yourself for that! I shouted the midwife to come in because I thought I was bleeding out 😬🤣 she assured me that it was perfectly normal 🙈
