Palpitations / maybe arrhythmia

Does anyone else suffer from this especially after eating a big meal? I've noticed I get flutters in my chest and palpitations after eating. I'm definitely eating more at eat sitting (I'm in the second trimester).

I will mention it to my midwife next week and I guess try to not eat as many carbs... normally I'm a grazer so perhaps I'll go back to that pattern.

Does anyone else suffer and have any advice?

Thanks in advance.

Can be a sign of low iron levels, so worth asking your midwife to check.

How many beat per min do you get up to? Do you feel like you are skipping beats, or that it is just irregular?

Try taking a magnesium supplement.

It's no faster I don't think but I get flutters and skip beats.

Definitely mention it to midwife. My entire pregnancy I’ve been dealing with millions of ectopic beats - had all the tests and apparently it’s just down to being pregnant. Yay.

You are probably getting benign arrthymia, but its worth getting an ecg as very rarely it can be something more serious. The magnesium will help as you stores are very depleted by pregnancy and it is needed to control heart rhythm. I would take 100% of the recommended amount daily before bed, and get an ecg

Confused521 · 07/08/2021 14:30

What's the recommended dose? 400mg or 350mg a day? I can only find it in either 80mg or 250mg doses. Helpful.

Its 350 to 360 unless you are a teenager when it is 400

I would take a 250 and an 80 and see how you go. You could always take 2 x 80s on a Sunday to top up

Thanks. That sounds very sensible.

Be careful about just taking magnesium as it's still very rare to have a deficiency in it

FrenchTrellis · 03/05/2023 13:52

You need to see the GP and ask them to arrange an ECG, that's not something a midwife can do (or at least not where I am). Heart problems can appear in pregnancy due to the strain on the body so it's important to get advice from the GP

I used to get a lot of palpitations in my teens. All tests were normal.

They became less frequent.

Now I'm pregnant, they're happening quite a lot.
