Would it be wrong to demand a c section?

38 weeks pregnant and found out I had a large ovarian cyst (12cm) yesterday at a growth scan. Had a specialist scan today who has said that as its large etc it will need to be surgically removed shortly after birth. I have been getting a lot of pain where said cyst is for a while now but I put it down to baby kicking etc (so did midwife). He has told me I will likely need my tube removed and if I do end up with an EMCS (which he said is now more likely) they will be removed there and then and has updated my notes to say as such. I was going to get induced on the 18th (my due date) but he's cancelled this as he doesn't want to risk baby getting stressed (he's measuring small) and to wait for spontaneous labour and aim for a vaginal.

Would I be unreasonable to ask for a planned c section to save the faffing about after delivery. So recovering from a vaginal and then having surgery to remove the cyst etc. I am quite worried as he said there is a chance it could burst and obviously EMCS would have to happen then. I am so 40 minutes away from hospital and have very quick deliveries so if complications do arise chances are ill be birthing at home.

I was reading the OP thinking 'You need a section, they can't induce you!'. I hope you get booked in ASAP OP.

As an aside to those debating csection availability, there is a post on MN today where the OP only wants positive birth stories. There remains a widely held view still that those of us who had difficult, painful and traumatic births are all dramallamas who need to stop scaring poor pregnant ladies. And when they have similar experiences, they ask why no one told them the truth.

Thankyou! I hope the consultant decides to book me in today, it would be such a weight lifted.

Yes I also believe that women need realistic birth stories! Majority of first time mothers too have a traumatic birth, so seeking out positive birth stories from mothers who have had subsequent pregnancies doesn't actually hold much weight!

Consultant wouldn't listen and said absolutely not :( she's referred me to someone else but I doubt they'll sign it off. So so upset, she dismissed my pain saying it wasn't from my cyst (how would she know?!) And wasted my time yet again. I feel so anxious and upset now.

On what grounds did she refuse your request?

That she doesn't deem its any safer than a vaginal and she wouldn't be happy to give me it. :( I told her I am informed on a section and the risks etc and that I'm happy to take those risks but she wouldn't listen. Also told me there's no way my severe pelvic pain etc is due to my cyst

@chelsiekxoxo I wonder if it's because the ovarian cyst is a medical concern and she's a medic. She's wrong though about ovarian cysts not causing pelvic pain - I had severe pain in my hip when mine got to a certain size. With the next consultant, I would really play on the mental health angle - they are not mental health professionals so it's more difficult for them to argue away and it's clearly causing you a lot of distress. Really hope it works out for you - no one deserves to be treated like that especially not during a vulnerable time like pregnancy. And a previous poster had the gall to suggest it was easy to get a section smh.

Little man was born yesterday at 17.52 really quick painless birth (I had the epidural). 2 pushes he was out and no tears etc.

Babys fine but he is a bit small at 6lbs 3 and 48 length. My cyst is obviously causing me pain my pelvis absolutely kills still and my left side hurts a lot.

Awwwww chelsiekxoxo, that's such great news! I'm so glad it all went well for you! Congratulations on the birth of your DS.

I'm still angry about how it went with the consultant you spoke to but it sounds like it all worked out 😁

I got the yes on my c-section today 😊 the consultant said she will support my decision 100%. It's such a relief.

@chelsiekxoxo congrats! Glad that it all worked out in the end!
