Hi everyone I'm 18 weeks pregnant I got my first covid jab before I was pregnant I was told at my last midwife appointment I should get my second jab
Also it's been on the news urging pregnant women to get it
I'm scared it could effect my baby
Has anyone got the vaccine while pregnant
Would live hear any advice my heads away thinking about it
Tia

Search this topic and you'll find absolutely loads of similar posts on it. Yes loads of pregnant women have had it, I did, Pfizer, no side effects other than a sore arm. It doesn't pass to the baby, but antibodies do. Getting covid in third trimester could have a much worse effect on your and/or your baby.

Had both doses of Pfizer (1 pre-pregnancy and the other at 7 weeks), no side effects. Relieved to have 90% protection against the virus.

The only way it can effect your baby is by giving it antibodies to fight any covid infection.

The vaccine itself does not enter your bloodstream and does not cross the placenta.

Latest advice is on the rcog website.

I had dose 1 at 13 weeks (last week) had a sore arm but pleased I did it

Much better to have the vaccine than contract covid in the third tri and be very ill and possibly be admitted to intensive care. I had both mine while pregnant (now 37 weeks) and no ill effects at all, just a bit tired after the first one.

Had my second jab before I knew (but was already pregnant) glad I had it without worrying if I should.

Get it IMO as pregnant people can get really ill

This immunologist has the most up to date information on vaccines in pregnancy. Reading her findings is what persuaded me to get vaccinated:

twitter.com/vikilovesfacs?s=21

I had my first dose at 14 weeks & second dose at 22 weeks, now 24 weeks & baby is happily kicking away. No side effects other than a sore arm.

crabette · 05/08/2021 21:07

I had Moderna first dose at almost 22 weeks pregnant and second dose at almost 30 weeks pregnant.

Sore arm with the first dose, sore arm again with the second dose coupled with a night of chills and a slight fever. (For which you take paracetamol - safe in pregnancy - to reduce.)

Baby is kicking away fine!

As others have said, the vaccine itself doesn't cross the placenta to the baby, but the natural antibodies your body make in response to the vaccine do, so baby will be born with some protection against covid without having to actually risk getting the vaccine itself.

Known risks of covid in pregnancy and particularly in third trimester of pregnancy include still birth, premature birth and intensive care treatment for both you and baby. Try and balance that against any POTENTIAL (and highly unlikely in the view of scientists!) long term vaccination risks.

Brilliant webinar below with good explanations helped me make my decision:

Hey, I really tortured myself over it - so anxious either way.. but after a lot of research (and not reading Facebook scientists) I decided to get it. I’m in third trimester and felt the risks of vaccine were much lower than the real risk of covid right now. This helped - www.rcog.org.uk/globalassets/documents/guidelines/2021-02-24-combined-info-sheet-and-decision-aid.pdf

It’s a super personal decision. I’m glad I’ve had first dose, little side effects and will have second x

Hyppogriff · 05/08/2021 21:15

Yes you should definitely get it

Yep you're all good to just go ahead and get a 2nd dose at an appointment or walk in centre
