Essentials for a winter baby?

Currently 18 weeks pregnant and due end of December/beginning of Jan.

Does anyone have any winter must haves for a newborn baby? Or things they found super handy?

Currently looking at coats with in built carriers, fleece onesies and lamb skin pram inserts. Got loads of snuggly blankets already.

Tia!

Hey! @nothanksbarb my DS was born at the end of December (he's 4 now) but I found buying a universal car seat cover a god send. I used the car seat on the pram wheels a lot for easiness during short outings but found it difficult before I purchased a cover because it was always raining and freezing. I think I paid a tenner for it and as I say it was universal🥰 x

Loving the adult socks idea, even better I can use DS9's.

Car seat footmuff I'll abandon and use blankets.

@Twizbe can you get sleeping bags for newborns??

Thanks @Cheekymonkey3112 - when you say car seat cover do you mean something like this?

3 in one baby wearing coat

Tuppence and crumble star wraps. Great in the house as an extra layer when doing skin to skin time. Safe in car seat. Great in sling,. Easy to remove from sleeping baby when going inside warm house.

Fleece sleepsuits for really cold nights

Travel system, with rain cover for baby carrier.

Nice comfy sweatshirts for you

@nothanksbarb yep. I got some from Sainsbury's, Dunelm and Mothercare. I think they have to be over a certain weight, but I think unless they are a premie they should be. Not sure though as both mine were over 9lbs.

I'd have them in a vest and long sleeved sleep suit and a winter weight sleeping bag. They both had them all the way through to about 18 months.

I had a Christmas day baby 26 years ago so just pre fleece in the UK.

Footmuff on the pram, cosy jacket, always pulled off mittens and hats - pulling the plastic raincover over to keep the wind off and in the first six weeks he was tucked under the carrycot with the hood up.

Even 26 years ago cars had heating so babygro, cardigan and ifnitbwas Arctic a pram blanket.

Beyond that mostly refused a coat, hat and gloves and wore shorts to school with long socks until he was 11. He survived. Good training for festivals
