Reduced movements -33 weeks

I'm not really sure if I'm overthinking things.

I am 33 weeks pregnant with DC2. Have low Papp-A so have been having additional growth scans.

Early hours of yesterday, Wednesday morning, I had sharp stabbing pains around my diaphragm which I just put down to babys position. They lasted about an hour and resolved after lying down for a while and slept with no further issues.

However, all of Wednesday I've felt reduced foetal movements. I put it down to being quite busy yesterday, and probably not noticing as much. But I've been in bed for a few hours now and only had one very weak kick.

Baby is usually very active at night.

I've tried lying down on either side, drink cold water, talk to baby to try and elicit further movements, to no avail.

The thing is, I'm not at home at the moment so can't call up my usual hospital labour ward for advice as per my maternity notes. Im visiting my parents 100 miles away for the week so not sure what to do.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Still just ring the number you have for now. Explain exactly as you’ve put here, then tell them where you are. They may well advise you to contact the local maternity service straight away., please do ring them. Rather waste their time if all is well, than not ring and regret it. It may be nothing but it may be very serious, just trust your instincts.

As PP said, I'd call your usual hospital immediately and ask for advice - I expect they'll recommend you go to the local hospital to get everything checked, but they might be able to call ahead. I don't know how it works though. Definitely get yourself checked out though, even if that just means going to the local hospital directly - so much better safe than sorry. Good luck Thanks

Ring up right now and ask. The reason you have maternity notes to take everywhere is so you can be seen wherever you are so it won't matter that you're not at home. If you can't get through to maternity at your local hospital, try the hospital where you are.

Hi OP, I’d echo to phone the local maternity unit and ask them.

Did you get anywhere?

Marty13 · 05/08/2021 03:50

Yes, I would advise you to get seen, if you can't reach anyone else I'd walk into the ER.

Yes agree with PPs, call up your usual clinic. They will advise.

Im a midwife. If it's been like that since Wednesday just call the closest maternity unit to where you are and explain. Ask that you go in to be monitored. Don't wait!

Thank you everyone for your encouragement.

I called up the maternity unit at the local hospital and they asked me to come in to triage. Baby is thankfully fine, they think she was hiding behind my anterior placenta, hence why I couldn't feel anything.

She moved after a few hours so was reassured and came home a few hours later. They were lovely, and told me it was best to be checked out as well.

Thank you again.
