Low lying placenta and future pregnancies

Currently 19+3 with baby #2 and was told at my scan today I have an anterior low lying placenta. Getting another scan at 30 weeks to see if it’s moved but my understanding is that my previous c section makes this unlikely.

She checked and atm it seems well away from my c section scar so hopefully no issues there.

I’d love another one or two children after this but a consultant told me all the risks of low lying placentas yesterday and has me terrified. So just wondering if anyone’s had this and gone on to have more children? Did it happen again?

I had a low lying placenta in my last pregnancy, identified at the 20 week scan. I had to have lots of regular scans towards the end of the pregnancy to check if it had moved and from what I can remember the very last scan showed it had just about moved out of the way. I remember I was told lots of terrifying things about what I had to do if I went into labour before it moved!

Anyway, now on my next pregnancy (baby #3) and have had no problems with the placenta at all. Seems to have been in the right position at every scan so looks like it was just one of those things last time. I haven't had a caesarean before like you though, so I'm not sure how much of a factor that is. However, just because you've had one low lying placenta it doesn't mean you will definitely have another in a subsequent pregnancy.

Good luck!

I did ask sonographer at the scan and she said that it’s luck where the placenta implants and although a previous c section increased the risk of low lying placenta it could still implant anywhere next time so fingers crossed if I were to have another that would be the case.

I think because it’s anterior and my scar tissue is there it could get in the way of it moving up but in some cases it does so I’ll be hopeful.

That’s my biggest fear atm like you said, going into labour before it moves/if it doesn’t move. Or bleeding.

Trying to be positive.

Good to know yours wasn’t low lying next time though! Gives me hope

I had it with my first and had a section. I’m 18 weeks pregnant again and all seems fine, but I haven’t had my 20 week scan to find out where my placenta is this time yet!
