Did you dream about what sex your baby was? And if so, were you right?

I’m 22 weeks and we’re not finding out the sex. However, I had a dream that baby was a boy and he was called George Elliot (these are names we’ve not considered for a boy so no idea where they came from). I’ve had vivid dreams, even before pregnancy, of completely mundane things that often aren’t true but they can be so vivid I have been confused about what is real and what isn’t.

Did any of you dream about the sex of your baby before they arrived? Were you right? It doesn’t particularly matter to us either way, although we’re probably closer to picking a name for a girl name than a boy but it might be my dream was telling me the name anyway…

I didn’t dream it but I did just know it was a boy from the start. We told our families at 8 weeks and I told them at the same time it was a boy. Not that I thought it was a boy, I just knew it was! And it is 😊

Ainesskirt · 03/08/2021 10:27

George Elliott was a writer. Her real name was Mary Anne Evans. That is probably where the name came from.

I dreamt about tiny baby girls with very dark, straight hair during both my pregnancies. I have two huge, blonde haired boys.

ThatLibraryMiss · 03/08/2021 10:42

I dreamed I had a girl with lots of curly red hair and green eyes. The girl bit was right, but that's 50/50 so hardly a big win. In the dream she was born in an ambulance and with no pain. Those little details were wrong too.

This thread will probably get a lot of people here who dreamed/guessed right, because it's a self-selected sample.

Blughbablugh · 03/08/2021 10:45

Yeah I did both times. I had a really vivid dream early on with my dd that she was going to be a girl and the same with my ds.

IAmWomxxnHearMeRoar · 03/08/2021 10:51

Nope. But for my first preg I was told that 80% of women guessed the sex correctly. (I was in the select 20%!)

Isthissteangeitfeelsweird · 03/08/2021 10:52

I knew what sex my babies were every time, without exception. I knew from conception. Every time I told people I was pregnant I’d also add the sex, they all said I couldn’t possibly know, but I did

Me too, I knew I was pregnant before I even got a positive test. Went & bought pink and purple baby grows and was adamant I was having a girl and she was staying. ( I'd had several miscarriages beforehand and had never bought anything for those pregnancys ) I just knew I was getting my girl

When I was pregnant with DS I dreamt I had a little boy and I did. I honestly do think our body's know who we're growing and let us know

BeeDavis · 03/08/2021 11:08

My fiance and my mum have both had a dream that our baby is going to be a girl, I’m 32 weeks and ready to find out if their dream is true! Sounds mad when I say this but whenever someone in the family has been pregnant my mum has always had a dream about the gender.. and been right. She says her mum (who died when my mum was 14) always appears in the dreams and tells her the gender. I know it’s loopy but it’s scary how the gender has always been right!

thesugarbumfairy · 03/08/2021 11:23

I had a very vivid dream once about having two boys. Not whilst I was pregnant with them though. This was years before.
Gabriel and Adam they were called. No idea where those names came from. The older one was quieter with shorter brown hair. The younger one was gobby with longer wavy hair:)

Anyway, fast forward a few years on and I had my first son. Didn't call him Gabriel (although it was on my list - just not DH's) although he does have a 'biblical' name. He was a ginge at birth, and then he was curly blonde. However now he's a teen, and he has short straight brown hair and is quiet and reserved.
My second son was born a couple of years later. He was also a ginge, then his hair went straight blonde, and now its brown and longer wavy. He hates hair cuts! He was definitely given all the confidence in the family and is the gobby one. He isn't called Adam, but also has a biblical name (we aren't religious - its just the only names we agreed on)

So yes I guess I did. Even though when I was pregnant the second time I could have sworn I was having a girl :)

Oh I’m aware that it will be a self-selected sample but I’m just mildly interested. Dreams were my first pregnancy symptom but I didn’t twig because I have vivid (albeit really dull) dreams anyway. They weren’t dreams that I was pregnant but dreams about my aunt and grandma who died a couple of years ago, so I didn’t automatically think I was pregnant. They weren’t nice dreams though because I couldn’t talk to them - neither would talk to me, they would start arguments with me, not answer the phone or hang up, keep their backs to me and walk off. The dreams were every night until I found I was pregnant, sometimes several times a night. The frequency dropped off when I found out and then pretty much stopped after my first midwife appointment. I freaked my midwife out telling her I was dreaming of dead people Blush I’m not usually woo so I thought I was having some delayed reaction to their deaths and was looking up grief counsellors! So I’m slightly interested if there’s something my subconscious can pick up on that I’m too blind to see normally.

I’m fine if my dream is wrong but it’ll be a bit of time before I find out.

No dreams, no, and I’d not put any store by them if I did.

But I just knew, I always knew, she was a girl, we never found out the sex and when our daughter was born I said “I told you so” to my husband, who hadn’t believed I knew.. I don’t know how I knew, but I just knew and told everyone she was a girl.

MeadowHay · 03/08/2021 16:51

Yes, I dreamt DD was a girl (we didn't find out the sex) and my DM and one of my best friends also dreamt that I had a baby girl. Me and DH always just thought it was a girl too for no reason. This time no dreams so far but again me and DH think another girl for no reason. So we will see! Grin

bdd2017 · 03/08/2021 16:56

When I was pregnant I dreamt I gave birth to a puppy. It was a lovely dream haha! Ended up with a baby boy instead, thankfully! I also had a seperate dream that we named our son Bruce (we found out the sex) He is not called Bruce although we called him it as a bump and by then end of pregnancy I quite liked the name. But glad I let my head overrule that one in the long term.

tuxedocat · 03/08/2021 19:57

Yes, both times my gut told me and I was right. I said to my husband in the early weeks I just knew and he always thought he opposite.

With my son, i had this image of me rocking him in our front room looking into our kitchen with some specific pendant lights. I couldn’t see what he looked like but I knew it was a boy

With my current, I always had this feeling she was a girl and again this image of a picture my husband would take of me and my son and my bump. It’s not happened yet but everytime I thought about it it seemed SO real. So, I’m intrigued when we come to take it if it will be like it or not!

89redballoons · 03/08/2021 20:58

On separate occasions when I was pregnant before I dreamed I was expecting a boy, a girl, a middle aged male supermarket boss and a litter of kittens Hmm

I was always convinced I was having a boy, though, from the moment I found out I was pregnant. I was like "oh, this is that little boy I am going to have". I was right, although I acknowledge it was 50/50.

InTheNightWeWillWish · 24/11/2021 01:56

Update: I didn’t have any more dreams but I would refer to baby as ‘he’ and ‘she’, I referred to baby as ‘he’ more often than not.

Baby is now here and they are…

A little girl.

Ironically this is very similar to what happened with my mother when she was pregnant with me. It was prior to the NHS offering to look at the babies sex during scans so she had paid privately and the night before her scan she had a dream that I was going to be a girl and that my name would be xxx with a very specific spelling that she saw in her dream. It was not a name she'd even thought to use & after the scan she was so excited she called my dad to tell him we're having a daughter and going to name her xxx & because he hated the original name she'd chosen for if I was a girl, he rang every family member to tell them so my mum couldn't back out later lol Not that she would have, because she really felt this dream was a message from her mother who had died. So she was right but it's all probably a fluke :)
choccrumpet · 24/11/2021 13:20

I had a feeling baby was a boy and had a dream one night that I was having a boy. I woke up feeling 100% certain it was a boy after that dream. Scans confirmed it was indeed a boy!

ThisMammaCat · 25/11/2021 02:18

With all 4 of my children I've had dreams of having a boy, always seeing a boy and knowing him to be mine- however, with my 4th, I also had a few dreams of being told by phonecall that I was having a girl. Baby number 4 was the only one I declined to know the sex of at the 20 week scan because I'd not yet had the experience of finding out at the birth. Surprise! Baby girl, blessed with three awesome big brothers 😂

What I found super interesting is that the dreams of having a girl where all about being told it was a girl, whereas all the boy ones (including several while carrying my daughter) were visual. I didn't have a preference (I've had losses and am just happy with whoever I get) so it fascinates me that on some level I seem to have known. I think if I ever have another, I would not find out again, and see if the dreams tell me 😂

HerbivorousRex · 25/11/2021 11:13

I had a really vivid dream about having twin girls. It included names and exactly what they looked like.
I’ve just had my 12 week scan and NIPT results back. I’m definitely having 1 boy 😂

wannabeamummysobad · 25/11/2021 11:25

I've always dreamed vividly however at 5weeks just after my BFP I dreamt about a baby girl in a garden at a family event (right now we live in a flat).

At 17W4D it's been confirmed we are having a 💓! Another interesting thing is the garden I saw looks similar to the garden of the house we are progressing on down to the summer house and swing set. It might be a coincidence but I tell DH I spoke our futures into existence x

I was going to say, ironic that OP dreamed she had a boy called George Elliot when the real one was in fact a girl who was using a male name… so maybe OP was right all along Grin
Dollywilde · 25/11/2021 11:30

Oh and in answer, I had a dream about a little girl while we were TTC. In the morning I thought about it and decided it must have been my sister I was dreaming about, because the little girl looked exactly like my sister around the age of about 3.

Guess went on to have a DD who is now the spitting image of her sister as a toddler Smile

ParishSpinster · 25/11/2021 11:33

Maybe you dreamt about the female author, George Eliot?

When pregnant with DC2, I had a series of vivid dreams of my DD with a little sister. I could see her face and everything.

DC2 is.... a boy Grin and no facial similarities to the child in the dream either!

trevthecat · 25/11/2021 11:55

I had the most bizarre dream when pregnant with my last. We didn't find out the sex. I dreamt that I was in a pub with a baby (around 9m) and the baby needed changing but I couldn't do it because my dh wasn't there and we didn't know the sex and wanted to both be there when we found out, after some time I decided it was tough, I had to change this baby's nappy. When I took the nappy off there was nothing there!! Like a doll! So strange!
