Can anyone help me with the reduced fetal movements induction policy for UK/North East UK?

Hey 👋
Ah, first time posting so sorry if I'm doing this wrong etc.

I'm currently 38+3 with a baby girl, but I've been struggling with reduced movements and preeclamsia symptoms since around 20w. I've been back and forth to the maternity unit for monitoring with ctg and blood pressure checks, blood and urine taken, etc around 5 or 6 times. My last two visits were only two days apart, last week. Because of that, they've given me a CTG appointment tomorrow, and a growth scan on Friday, but I'm so nervous about going because I feel like I'm not being listened to. It's very much beginning to feel like a "put her on the monitor, that'll shut her up for a couple weeks" situation.

Baby will be extremely quiet the whole day, sometimes day and a half, then wake up as soon as they get the monitor on bump which makes me look like a crazy person.

My community midwife has recorded high blood pressure a few times, but as soon as the hospital check me, I'm fine. I have protein in my urine every time they check apart from when I absolutely chugged water moreso than usual one day which I'm assuming had diluted my pee or whatever.

I'm getting so frustrated, as I pretty much have all the symptoms of preeclampsia, but my monitoring results make the nurses shrug me off.

...And I'm rambling, sorry!

Where I'm going with this is I've read a few stories on here where ladies have been induced as it is policy to do so after 3 episodes of reduced movements, but said posts are very old and I'm unsure if that is still policy or policy in my area.

I would rather go into labor naturally, but it's getting to the point where I'm so worried about baby quieting down that I'm afraid to sleep in case something happens overnight and by the time I wake up it's too late. I just want to make sure baby is safe. I'd call the unit to ask their policy, but I'm extremely shy and nervous. I don't want them to think I'm being pushy.

Be pushy. You'd never forgive yourself if you hadn't and the worst happened. Which hospital are you with? I know at the Wansbeck their policy (this was 6 years ago) was that after three visits with reduced movements required an ultrasound scan.

Sorry, just reread and noticed you are having a growth scan. I'm sorry you feel you aren't being listened to. I think that at least you have been booked in for a scan though, obviously go back in if you have reduced movement again in the interim.

I've been in a similar situation with my first, I was recommended induction after the scan. Give them a call and ask them. Or ask at your scan on Friday.

Hey, I'm in Scotland so not sure if any different. I was induced due to reduced movements (baby would be fine as soon as he went on the monitor). They offered me an induction as I went after my due date and had previously been to the hospital for reduced movements. I'd definitely ask the question. You know what's normal for your body xx

Had my Ctg today, cried all the way home like an idiot. Baby was fine apparently, despite me only actually feeling her move once on the monitor. They sent me home again.

I asked about the induction policy, but the midwife just laughed and said "you don't want to be induced" and obviously I'm a nervous wreck of a person so I didn't push any further.

...Like, I know that but I want to know the policy because it used to be 3 episodes would equal induction.

She told me if anything happens to come back in, but every time I do nothing is done and I'm treat like I'm stupid, so what's the point? Ughhhh, I feel so defeated.

If they are monitoring you, and they feel that movement is OK what more do you want them to do?
I can understand your worried, I would be too but unless you stand up for yourself and your baby when your there not much else will be done.
At your scan on Friday you might have a clearer picture of what's going on.
Where is your placenta located, are you missing movements due to that?

I went in for reduced movement with my first at 37+6 and they saw lots of movement on the monitor but because I said I didn't feel it myself they kept me in for overnight monitoring and gave me a scan first thing the next morning, they made sure I was going home happy and reassured!

Awful for you to feel how you are like their not listening. I unfortunately don't know what the policy is about induction but really hope you get sorted x

There are lots of reasons why you might have protein in your urine, the majority of which are totally harmless.
They should check you for sudden swelling (above and beyond the normal late pregnancy kind) and do a blood test to check things like liver function to determine if it is preeclampsia.
I don't think they think you're stupid, but there is a break down in communication somewhere as they aren't reassuring you.
If I were in your shoes, I'd push for an appointment with my midwife to discuss the impact this is having on your mental health. You understand that you're exhibiting symptoms of preeclamplsia, but aren't clear whether or how this has been ruled out? You've also gone in for reduced movements a number of times but don't understand the results and can they explain them?
I also wouldn't worry about their policy around reduced movements and induction and at what point you'd meet their eligibility criteria. If you really want to be induced, then ask your midwife for an elective induction. But they're not going to do anything before 39 weeks without good medical cause and it sounds like there isn't cause to do so which is great

@BambiA Sorry you went through that OP. What ended up happening? Did you push them for more answers?
