I am currently 22 weeks pregnant and I have had a one over the phone chat with the midwife, one visit at 16 weeks and the next one is mid September. This is my first child so I don't know what the norm is however it seems as if the appointments are quite far apart?

Do you have an ante-natal folder?

It should have a list of the appointments you should have. Each area does it slightly differently so in my area regardless of your risk you have at least one appointment with a GP. Also after about 28 weeks you will have more frequent appointments.

If possible sign up for and attend some form of antenatal classes. They were more helpful for me than the actual midwife appointments as due to the different circumstances and professions of the other perspective parents, I know what to ask for during labour.

Thank you.Yes already signed up for classes just wish I could have a more frequent reassurance if everything is going OK (blood pressure, heartbeat etc).I don't have a list of appointments I should have just the ones I have already had. Will be glad to reach the 28 week stage then :)

I don’t know about your area but they’ve cut down the number of appointments here because of covid. I should have had at least another one (or two?) by now but… 🤷🏻‍♀️. At my 20 week scan the midwife asked, ‘so do you have an appointment in a couple of weeks?’ And I said, ‘no, I don’t have an appointment for another entire two months???’. But that was the appointment she meant.

Each area does it differently but at my booking appointment, I got a list of appointments and the midwife ticked which ones applied to me.

So in our trust everyone will have a booking appointment before 10 weeks. Then have appointments at 16 weeks, 27-28 weeks, 34, 36, 38, 41 and 42 weeks. Additionally, first time mothers will have appointments at 25 weeks, 31 and 40. Maybe try Googling something for your specific trust?

In my area, south west, first time mums get a 25 weeks appointment. Definitely double check x

I gave birth last June and only had a couple of midwife appointments, they’d merged a lot together.

I had a telephone booking appointment, a 12 week scan, a 16 week telephone appointment, a 20 week scan, a random 22 week appointment (where despite everything else being cancelled due to covid they came out to the house?!), a 28 week appointment, a 34 week appointment and a 38 week appointment. On the NHS website it said I should have had a 36 week one but that seemed to have been cut out and I didn’t have my blood checked at my last appointment so it hasn’t been done since 34 weeks, don’t know if this is normal at the end. I was also meant to have got a telephone appointment about birth plans but they’re short staffed so no one called me 😕 Not overly impressed with it all to be honest!

It’s very usual not to have many appointments at the beginning, things like blood pressure etc tend to be affected more in the third trimester which is why you are seen much more frequently then.
If you’re worried call the midwife, but until then enjoy not going every 2 weeks!
