Twins

Hi there, any other twin mums / twin mums to be out there? Im currently 25 weeks and 5 days, DCDA twin girls on board.

on the 11th July (23 weeks) I had a stitch put in, then a week later it failed and I lost 1.5ltrs of blood and needed another stitch. I have an incompetent cervix (from the cancer treatment I had in 2016) and was transferred to Portsmouth Hospital as there was a very high chance I could go into labour at 23weeks.

Luckily it’s now 25 weeks and 4 days and no babies yet and bleeding has stopped and the 2 stitches are holding… however.. I am on bed rest and not allowed to walk until the babies are born and they are due on October.

So I’ll be in Portsmouth till I’m at least 28-30weeks and then potentially get transferred back to my home Hosptial. But I am hoping I’ll just stay here as I’ll need the NICU.

Has anyone else been in this situation? And to make it more fun my hiatus hernia has got worse Confused

Hopefully we can chat!

Hi I also have dcda girls, they are 4 years now, and I just want to say enjoy the bedrest, I look back fondly and wish I'd enjoyed it more! My advice is rest rest rest as I forced myself to, I know it's boring but worth it, also enjoy the sensation of boredom because you're about to have more excitement than u knew possible when your twins arrive. Fingers crossed for you, twins are amazing xx

That's amazing!! I can't wait to see my girls but in a couple of months if possible. How many weeks did you have yours?

Any tips or tricks that could help?

37+6 with a singleton atm (our 6th baby). Our last were fraternal twin girls, carried them to 38wk before they were evicted (was ready tho as they were 17lb combined). Twins are extra special, as hard as their pregnancy was I would love to have more twins. Ours were very settled after birth and no trouble at all, just slot in to life around their older siblings. They are still little sweethearts at 6yr, I hope they stay that way as long as possible.

I have no experience of cervical problems so no words of help for you but I wish you lots of luck holding on to your girls.
Best tip is keep them together as long as possible, ours shared a cot-bed and were always snuggled up together. If you bottle feed get different coloured bottles so you can keep track of who's had what.

I have boy/girl DCDA twins who are 6 months. I made it to 34 weeks but had a placental abruption and haemorrhage
Having twins is amazing! I'd totally have another set of twins if I could 🤣

Tips and tricks, tbh just relax, don't ask too much of yourself, and don't compare your mothering experience to that of a mum of a singleton. It's a completely different ride and very special. A huge advantage would be to find another local twin mum friend ( my county had a fb group but I was lucky one of my neighbours had twins three months after me, after about 10 years of being acquaintances we are now the closest of friends) that would be amazing. My dcda twins were elcs at 37+1 because of my age and they were breech, I reckon they would have hung on to past 40 weeks if allowed. They were both over 6lb and healthy. I was very anxious this wouldn't be the case but they were fine. Enjoy the magic, it really is a blessing, although I won't lie, the newborn phase was hard for me, I wish I'd accepted more help. X
