hello everyone, i’m feeling a bit paranoid because i’m scared i could of put myself at risk for toxoplasmosis. my partner went out for a walk and had accidentally stepped in animal faeces (not sure from what animal) then he had cleaned his shoes using a flannel but i picked up that flannel to move it not knowing it had been used for cleaning his shoes until he told me! the flannel didn’t look like it had anything on it and i had no idea, now i’m worrying because i’m 25 weeks pregnant and i don’t want
to affect my baby :( what are the chances of
me being infected? am i just being silly or should i be concerned? x

Not an expert by any stretch of the imagination but I'd say you risk was incredibly low from picking up a flannel and even less if you washed your hands afterwards

The risk is incredibly low, practically zero if you washed your hands

If it was dog poo then risk is low for dog having toxoplasmosis as most dogs are fed cooked canned dog food or dry food, neither of which will have infected cysts in. You'd be unlucky to get a dog that ate raw meat that was infected and for it to have been the two infectious poo weeks if it's life

Not all animal faeces contains toxoplasmosis, so you’d have had to touch infected faeces, and then ingest it. So assuming you washed your hands before eating you should be absolutely fine. There is a blood test available which you could always ask for in a few weeks if you are still concerned though. But I’m sure itl be fine OP

Very small risk, as long as you washed your hands. But it fairly grim of your DH to use a flannel on shit then leave it around!!!

Sorry, Partner

I wouldn't worry about it if you washed your hands and he had used cleaning products on the flannel.

I remember being in the same boat with DD1 and being absolutely terrified. Our cat brought in a dead mouse and left it on the pillow when I was about 6 months pregnant. God knows how, but I didn't realise until the next morning when I woke up to blood on the bed and a horrible smell, did some digging and found I had been sleeping with a dead mouse in my face all night.

I was so worried about picking up toxoplasmosis that I went to triage who basically laughed me away.

DD1 was absolutely fine.

Try to worry too much I'm pretty certain you have nothing at all to worry about.
