Hi all!

So I've hit the 24 weeks/6 month mark and I totally underestimated how much time we had left. I want everything done by 37 weeks so we're all sorted by the time I'm full term.. the problem is I'm extremely cautious about buying anything!

I feel like I've held my breath for the past 6 months waiting for something to go wrong so I feel like I'm tempting fate by buying anything but when would you lovely lot suggest is the best time to start buying for someone like myself who's extremely cautious. We haven't done or bought a thing!

Anybody else like me when did you feel comfortable?

Hey Smile I'm 27 weeks now and DH started on the nursery this week.

Personally I would get cracking on ordering the big things to be honest, we ordered our pram/car seat at about 24 weeks and I've ordered the cot and nursery furniture too (the delivery time is 6-8 weeks from ordering that so didn't want to leave it too long). I figured when I'm late into the 3rd trimester I'll likely be tired and won't want to be sorting things out by then!

Didn't buy anything until around 28 weeks, and then just bought things a few items each week

Didn't do the nursery until DS was 8 months as he was in our room so it seemed pointless

You’ve still got lots of time! Agreed you’ll want a buggy and need a car seat to get home from hospital and somewhere safe for baby to sleep, but we didn’t buy a cot and wardrobe until ours was six months old as she slept in our room in a next to me until then. We did have a feeding chair and chest of draws for her baby grows etc. I appreciate having a lovely room with all their things in is appealing but not completely necessary for the day they arrive (I am possibly trying to make myself feel better as our house is mid extension and baby’s room won’t be ready until September at the earliest and I’m due October….!!) x

Oh I'm glad I'm not the only one holding off!

The nursery is our large attic bedroom which is where I or my husband sleeps due to his snoring so I'd like to get that painted in the next couple of months as she'll be sleeping with me up there so why not make it nice whilst we're there.

I've just ordered a nursing chair, bedside table and lamp as that's all an 8-10 week delivery.

Thank you x

We didn't get started until about 32-33 weeks, don't worry, you've got loads of time! Make a list of your priority tasks and work your way through those first. Then make a separate list of 'would be nice to get done' jobs etc and start those once your first list is finished. You'll be amazed how quickly you can get it all sorted once you start!

I wouldn't get anything until as late as possible. I'm superstitious and wouldnt even have baby stuff in the house. We got it as late as we could, the month before my due date. All we had at home was what we needed for the hospital, the other few big things we got were at my mums until after the baby was born. Also we only got the bare minimum of what we needed as we didn't want to find out the sex until the birth. All we had before was crib and bedding, car seat, pram and clothes and essentials for hospital. Everything else (bouncy chair, playmat, swing, bath, changing mat and box, toys, clothes and so on) we got after when we knew if we were buying for a boy or a girl.
I'd never set anything up either.
Our baby was not well when he was born and was in NICU for 12 days. Walking out the hospital with an empty car seat was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. Then at home going into the bedroom seeing the empty space where the crib should have been was hard enough, if everything (crib, pram, toys, changing stuff, clothes were there set up it would have been even harder.
Plus I hate nurseries anyway, they're not necessary at all imo, so no need to set anything up.
